Needs to make up some engine mounts to put my M20 into my Cabrio, Marlin wanted £280 for a set so the easy route is out of the equation and I will be making my own.
Wondered if M20 owners could tell me what gauge steel the engine mounts they have are made from.
I would like to use a folded design with welded in triangulated stiffeners so all the weight is not taken on the welds alone as would be the case with a plate bolted to the engine with a u style section welded to the face of it.
On the Marlin supplied mounts used on the engine I am replacing, the design relied totally on the integrity of the butted weld joint between the arm and the plate bolted to the block which I never really liked.
I was thinking in terms of 3 - 4 mm mild steel plate as I don't think it will be possible to fold something much thicker.
Any thoughts on or pics of the Marlin supplied mounts regards thickness and design or lack of it.
I to was also quite surprised by the price provided by Marlin, it was justified by the need to custom fabricate the mounts as it was for a Cabrio/Hunter and they estimated it as two days work.
Given the fact that they have produced these before it seemed a tad strange, I suspect in reality they just didn't want to supply them and so priced the job to ensure they would not have to.
Its not a particularly big deal for me to make them, I just thought buying mounts at a sensible price from Marlin would be an easier choice, it would appear that's not possible.
