I am laying in parts for post IVA and thinking about Steering Wheels for my 5Exi.

I will use the standard, non air bag Rover wheel for the IVA but I guess it will be too big for effective use on track.

I have already procured two bosses for the column having worked out that some of the Vauxhaul range match the size and splines of the Rover 200, so I now have a choice of steering wheels to go for. With two sizes of PCD Boss (3" and 4") both cheap enough to buy on spec, I have a wonderful choice on fleeBay of ASTRALI and Mountney Steering both makes are less expensive than the Momo Wheels.

The question is how small do I go?

I believe a 10" is going to be too small the current Rover one is 14" diameter, and for comparison an Elise is 12" diameter.

A 10" on the QuickRacked equipped Robin Hood was just right but the Metro rack is not as quick and will need more turns on a hair pin. I liked the idea of a 'D' shaped wheel to aid exit and access on a Momo style but it may not be necessary and the cost is very high.
I could make an adaptor from Momo to either of the other to if needed, not difficult.

What is the track vs road based experience of you guys?

My car originally came with the X2 wheel part leather, part suede with a flat piece at the bottom. The only problem I found was that it cut off the top of the instruments and I could not see the indicator warning light.

The solution was to buy a Momo Tornado F1 Concept 350mm wheel off Ebay after trying many different designs. I find the size good and can see all the instruments and warning lights. The indicator stalks also fall nicely to hand. I have now bought a spare again off Ebay as this design is no longer available. Both the ones I bought are in excellent condition with an average price paid of £40 as they are not the most popular design but work perfectly.

I have a 350mm Momo. Anything smaller would obscure the instruments (if using Rover or similar sized).

It's all about personal taste and feel as well. I tried a MOMO Millenium Evo. But the hard leather feel drove me nuts. So bought a cheapy (a better feel but not perfect) until I can "test" rather than buy to get the right one.

Feel wise, I actually like the soft leather feel of the Rover one.
