Quick Question

7 Apr 2011, 9:40pm
Still looking for stronger exhaust clamps and have found a source supplying stainless steel exhaust clamps. Not being a metallurgist, can someone inform me if they are stronger than the normal exhaust clamp thats available everywhere. I know they will not rust but I want strong ones.
Thanks

There are so many grades of both steel and stainless steel its impossible to answer unless you know what grade they are. Having said that I would guess that they would be much better then the monkey metal (low grade steel) that the average exhaust clamp is made from.

The best clamps I have seen are the ones Peter bought which seem to be proper high tensile steel - the same that bolts are normally made from.

Since I doubled up on the clamps, the same as Peter and Jason have done, I haven't had any problems. (Although the mudguards still wobble ferociously!)

Cheers

Thanks Robin, I will contact Peter to see if they are easily purchased as the stainless steel ones I have in mind are over in the USA.

Hi Dennis,
mine were 'Made in Canada' so probably stronger as they were made for NA cars.
I bought them off UK eBay, but I can't see any available now when I search.
They came boxed and I have a photo but I can't read any manufactures name.
Maybe see if you can find a US car spares dealer in the UK who might have the heavy duty clamps?

Thanks Peter, I have just found a supplier of stainless steel U clamps at £4.36 each, orderred six, gives me two spare ones to keep with the car.
