The windscreen capping which came with my unfinished kit is very moth eaten. Has anyone out there got one which is surplus to their needs?

Sorry but no.
Mine was a bit sad for itself too after 7 years waiting to be fitted, but a gentle rub down with fine wet and dry got it into a state that was OK after it was painted.

Thanks for the words of encouragement-mines already seen 15years of life and nothing less than a welder will fix it!

Is it the 2 piece aluminium capping that you are after or a 1 piece stainless steel one? I think I may have an unused set of aluminium cappings somewhere in the garage loft...

Cabrio windscreen cap

Sorry about the delay in replying-We have been away on holiday. An aluminium cap would suit my needs very well if you can locate it.

I'm going to have to replace my cappings as I had to pretty much destroy them to get them off (I wanted everything off the chassis as the intention was to have it grit-blasted back to bare metal). They were rather sorry looking anyway with bits of grit and suchlike embedded in the front face.

Simon, I see you have a stainless capping on your Cabrio - did you source that yourself or did it come from the previous owner along with the kit? I've seen mention of them on the MOC forum but whoever it was that was selling them didn't have any left the last I saw. I think I'd prefer stainless myself but I'd guess aluminium ones are easier to fit.

I don't mean to barge in, but I'd also be interested in buying your aluminium cappings if they're still available and Spannerman no longer wants them.

Marlin used to supply stainless cappings, but whether they will still supply the odd one? Ask Terry - on a good day!
Although they are no longer keen to supply parts like these, they are not forthcoming about putting existing customer in touch with the original supplier of these parts.
I have to say the capping I had supplied by Marlin was fantastic quality - I just do not know how they made it so well. Their supplier must have specialised kit to fold, weld and radius all at the same time.

I didn't realise Marlin had ever supplied stainless cappings, so thanks for that. A closer look at your flickr photos suggests yours is a two-piece stainless item?

I remember being bounced between Javelin and Marlin a few years ago when I contacted them (I think I tried Marlin first) to say I was planning a rebuild and wondering if they'd be able to supply any odd parts I might need - a customer of neither, and neither of them prepared to help at the time

But it's certainly worth another call.

Mine is a single piece - that is what makes it so impressive. The corners must have been welded yet the radii are perfect? I just do not know how they have made it.
However, the point being, Marlin found a company that was very good at making these, and it is likely that company could still be around and capable of making new cappings. If Marlin do not want to continue with the Cabrio, I wish they would let it go and let existing owners approach their original manufacturers for parts. It will not cost them anything.

I spoke to Terry on Friday and she told me the chap who used to make the stainless cappings was in Cornwall but is now retired. She said she'd speak to Mark about the possibility of making a pair of aluminium cappings for me - I'll see what comes of that.

So there are no signs of welds on the insides of the channel? Intriguing...
