Hi, I have a vested interest in the lowered floor: I got a pair of rebuilt MGB seats off the bay of e for an unbelievable £39 and, having plopped them on the floor of the garage with the Sammio subframe and body shell around them it's looking like it's going to be a bit of a squeeze. I have the usual ebay option of putting them back on for twice what I paid for them (works for me) but I kinda like them, being quite big 'n' squashy and particularly cheap an' all that. Anywho, keep up the good work!
Small matter of 'blasting the chassis of my vitesse donor, then seeing if there's any chassis left... then getting someone to weld new front pans into the bulkhead so we don't end up doing the Flintstones thang on the motorway, then make up the floor panels (anyone got a template?) bolt the Sammio subframe to what's left of the chassis, then, perhaps, I can trial fit the MGB seats and post some snaps.
What i've found from fitting my seats (quite large Cobra style seats) is that they are a bit of a squeeze, but there are ways and means around the problems.
e.g. my inner side panels have been bonded inside of the top lip of the body tub rather than on the outside, saving me a good 6 to 10 mm each side.
Also i found that as well as lowering the floor, tilting the seats made equally as big a difference!
My opinion is that i need to choose seats i'm happy and comfortable with and then mod the car around them.
Yep, I'm with you on that one. At my age I can't be doing with squeezing my butt into a tiny, rock hard racing seat. It's comfort all the way for me.
I'll be bonding my side panels inside the top edge too for the following reasons:1/ it's a good idea; 2/ I thought that's how they were supposed to be fitted anyway and was blissfully ignorant that there was any other way to do it.
BTW, the MGB seat frame is angled as standard, the back of the squab pretty much touches the floor while the front rises up about four inches giving a really comfortable angle. So long as I can get them to fit I'll be well happy with them.
