Master Cylinder ID

13 Dec 2011, 6:47pm
Now I have a shiny new servo in prospect I started looking at the adapter plate dimensions for the master cyl to servo. Mike has kindly offered to get one made to suit the stud pcd and rotation but it got me thinking maybe I should replace the Marlin supplied cylinder that came on my factory built Hunter (Cabrio) as the car had done 75K before i stripped it to rebuild it.

So question is does anyone know what the master cylinder I have is from.

I know some have said P100 but I am not sure. If it is, I don't even know if they are still available.

It looks similar to Goos, but the two upper/side outlets appear to be on the other side to mine (mirror image).

The only marks I can see on it is the number 311728. Its set up to run with a remote reservoir.

Haven't stripped it so not even sure what diameter bore it is.

The car is running standard sierra brakes 240 disc front and 9" drum rears, I was going to leave them as that, (with the extra boost on the new servo I think the brakes should be fine).

I tend to feel it may be best to stick with a ford cylinder to match the ford brakes but I guess if the bore sizs is the same maybe a BMW cylinder would work ok.

Keen to fit something thats easy to get replacements for, BMW seem to be good on that front based on the dealer bits I have bought for the new M20 engine thats going in it.

Any ideas??

It looks like the Transit MC

Hi Mike

Not considered Transit , it does look very similar, might try and see if I can find one at a local motor factors so I can compare it with what I have.

Looks promising.

John,

I'll check it against my standard Sierra one tonight.

Thanks Chris

I have already looked at the spare sierra master cylinder I have but it has a much different flange arrangement, which has to protrude into the servo around 30mm, no good with the servo I'll be using.

I know there are a few different types on the sierra models so if you could take a look at yours that would be great. (Obviously I don't expect you to start dismantling anything).

How's the engine by the way, hope it worked out OK in the end, did you use the four branch.

The engine swap turned out to be a bit more involved than I planned I documented here: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3090

I didn't use the 4 branch as the lambda sensor seemed to be a bit close to the floor. I plan to cut it off and get a plate welded over sometime.

The reported tappetyness disappeared after some treatment with some Wynne's oil treatment and its going really well.

Good stuff, glad it worked out Ok.

Strange about the height issue on the manifold, it seemed fine when I had it in mine, maybe your engine mounts are a bit lower then the ones I had.

Pictures of my master cylinder. The only identity I can see on the casting is A1-1.

Its a replacement item I got from somebody near Newark. I think i got the addresss from the MOC website after posting a question.

I've got some fuel hose over the front brake line to protect it.

The engine mounts were different, your engine used the standard Ford engine to mount brackets. and Marlin provided me with some bespoke ones.
