Havn't done much more than this yet, but i read this forum day and night keeping upto date with everybodies builds. A great bunch of people who hopefully i will meet in the coming years.
Just read your 'blog Gary. Talk about one-upmanship: I'm welding up a rotten old chassis with a new welder, so you buy a mig welder that needs to be restored before you can use it on your rotten chassis!

Having just completed a spraying the wife's Herald in Old English White thats the colour I have settled on too.
I think its a class colour and so period..
Im a long way off getting colour on though.
If you get a chance Mulberry look at my blog, you'll see the state of chassis. Pops, I agree that colour will be great... It's just that I feel the Sammio, in my eyes is more Italian than English! I'm also going for white walled tyres, it's funny how a colour can change the interpretation of the picture in my head...
As much as I like to hear what others are up to, I can't wait to get on with my own build. Its been a struggle stuck at home DIYing, doing things that i once relished but now get in the way of my currrent hobby. I would like to build an old bicycle in the same style as my car will be... thats another project! My wife is now prepared to release funds as i go... if i start buying parts in the order i require them! Already spent £5500 in total

Know the feeling...although mine is more to do with being on my tod...at least your misses cleans the house, does the ironing...cooks a hearty meal and you know .... I seem to spend the whole bloody weekend doing womens work....isnt it great knowing there are no women on here...we can be so sexist and get away with it...(that should flush them out )

Had my first go at welding today, i think i ended up with a better idea of what to do... Mr.T, what thickness metal did you use to plug the holes? Quit a lot of work to do on the chassis which looks quite fiddly as there are alot of brackets around the area.

I used 5mm x 50mm strap iron for the repairs around the front outrigger and 1.2mm sheet for the areas that needed over plating.
That's because that's what I had to hand rather than for any complicated technical reasons.
Oh, and well done for having a go at welding, nice to see another newbie having a go!
That sounds about the same as me. I used 1.2mm for floor and outrigger repairs as that i what i had left over from my floor pans, and it seems about the same thickness. Then a bit of 3mm sheet i had left over from my last project for repairing some of the thicker pieces as it seemed to be the same thickness?
The chassis seems to be made up of very thin steel?
just sandwiched together to make it seem thicker! No wonder their are so many holes. Barn finds sound so romantic but unless the car is worth many thousands once restored, i will never touch one again.
But the shotblasting is going well...
