I mean with regards to the cars, not wives and girl friends.
I aim to:
Get the chassis welded
POR15 the new bits of chassis and the cleaned side of the suspension
Get the new bushes into the front near side suspension
Get the good suspension side rebuilt and the drivers side stripped ready for cleaning
I would also like to:
Get the rest of the chassis painted with POR15
Get one side of the rear suspension stripped
receive the new timing gear and fit it.
get the main bits of the engine bolted back together
Please add what you think you will do and what you hope to do beyond that. It might be interesting to review this thread after the weekend.
Myself, i'm fitting my reconditioned gearbox.
Also i'm removing and painting the propshaft while i'm at it (in hindsight I should have done this before I fitted the body! But, you live and learn) and then doing a full once over now that i've done a few miles, just to make sure that everything is still in place and to see if any problems have arisen from the shakedowns.
Oh, I forgot, i'm also popping in to see Gary on Sat to drop off some wheels. It'll only be a flying visit as i'll have the sprogs with me. But if anyone else is planning on going down, it'll be nice to say hello?
Cleaning, Cleaning and more cleaning. Nearly at the bottom of the washing pile of small parts from the donor now and things are looking good.
Sunday over to the Triumph show and spares day at Stoneleigh where I hope to pick up the majority of my required new bushes, bearings and bolts so I can start the slow rebuild next week.
Shotblasting chassis... as long as the recycled glass turns up. I know it would be cheaper to get it done, but it is great to see all that rust disappear and reveal clean metal! If i can do this on Sunday, i will be happy.

Hi Gary, I did and the seller didn't reply to verify the output so I ended up getting a Wolf 9.5cfm 50 ltr compressor instead. Already hard at work with the windy wire brushes and degreaser gun ;-)
I will be doing as much preperation as possible with a view to fit the body next week. I want to POR15 the foot wells, bolt in the fuel tank, fabricate something to fit the handbrake and hopefully if my new seatbelts arrive tomorrow I will also fit them. I need to find somebody to fabricate some lowered seat pans for me so hopefully if I can get them and fit them asap so I can get the body glassed in place.
I will be putting all my suspension back together and hoping to get a rolling chassis by the end of the week. Possibly not by the end of the weekend, as we have friends overs on Saturday Night to stay, so the end of the week is my goal.
If I can get it rolling by the end of the week then it will free me up to get the frame mounted next weekend. I will weld in the petrol tank mounting behind the spring and also make up a frame for a storage bin behind the rear seats. It starts getting exciting then because I will trial fit the body, check if I need to do any more frame modifications and if not, I can then paint the frame, and get the wiring in before the body goes on permanently!
Tirtone -wiring! I have stripped my scimi wiring loom. How easy is it to make one?

I always start with the old loom. Strip all the outer sheath off to check the integrity and condition of the wires. They are nearly 50 years old but the wires should be fine with maybe some corrosion on the exposed ends. I will use a second hand loom as well so I can solder any replacement wires of the same. Colour and size. Get a can of switch cleaner from Maplin or somewhere as it is great stuff.
Once you have the loom as you want it then PVC tape all the cables up and get some self amalgamating tape for the joints and connectors to keep the moisture out. Anything exposed gets a coating of WD40
The old loom had been partially remove with an angle grinder when I got the car.

There is a cut off bit of the loom coming out the back of the alternator, no battery and no cables to connect to a battery, nothing going to the starter motor and most of the cabling for the front lights were wound into a loose coil under what was left of the bonnet. Remember what it looked like when i started
Someone had started to strip it down and got bored i think.
Tick - Get the chassis welded
Tick - receive the new timing gear and fit it.
Tick - get the main bits of the engine bolted back together
The welding took longer than expected and the wife banned me from using POR15 before we go out for a meal this evening :-(
I have promised not to play with the car tomorrow so it looks like I was too optimistic. I wonder if I can get away with POR on the suspension without it counting as working on the car?
i did a deal - shopping on Saturday and i could work on the car on Sunday.

I wake up this morning and its raining - no garage for me - so no work on the car today GRRRRR
My build is happening outside as well so I stripped everything down and brought it in the dining room! I have painted most things and so it is building everything up inside the house ready to go on to the chassis on the next nice day!
The wife did throw her toys out of the pram last week though. Maybe suggesting I could strip the gearbox on the dining room table was a bit too much for her.
Rain is good for me/ It means we can't do anything outside so I might as well be in the garage. No grease though as we have friends and family coming round for a big Sunday roast so hopefully I will make progress on the POR15 at last.
Need coffee first though, too much wine last night

I did want to take the roadster there but the family want a trip out and i want some insoiration
well, i managed to get some bits on the chassis, so the front suspension is starting to get there.
I also got the front and rear brakes together and got the diff and propshaft cleaned and painted. I am replacing the UJ's in both the rear axles and the propshaft, as they are cheap enough to do and there was a little play in one on the propshaft.
My pool table now looks like this...
So I am on target to get the chassis rolling by next weekend, and I will then get onto the frame and floor.

Sadly due to spending the rest of Sat shopping in Poole and visiting friends today, i've not got any further on my gearbox swap fingers crossed I can put in a few good evenings this week and have it back on the road for next weekend!
