Potential IVA failure point - Sierra uprights

Recently a Royale Sabre failed its IVA test because the suspension adapters fitted to the top of the Ford Sierra or Granada uprights didn't have any secondary fixing.
The issue comes about because on the original Ford design the Macpherson strut has a plate welded to the side of the tube and this plate slots into the upright. The clamping bolt goes through a hole in this plate which stops the tube slipping out.
On any kit cars using an adapter (often called a 'mushroom') may be required by the IVA tester to have an additional fixing screw.
It appears that this is generally well known among the Locost and Cobra builders.
I think this applies to any kitcar using Ford Sierra or Granada uprights.

Hi Peter

I know of one Cabrio that failed sva on that point, after that I drilled my sierra upright and threaded it to take an m8 set screw to secure the upright to the mushroom. Pretty straight forward to do and with hindsight when I gave it some thought a sensible thing to do.
