Tyre pressures

14 May 2013, 10:16am
Hi folks. I have a Sylva Jester, 1300 Ford engine, with 185/60/R13 inch tyres. Any idea as to what tyre pressures I should use. On the bikes I've built I usually let tyres down until they just start to deform, is that a good idea on my car, which, I guess, weighs less than a Reliant Robin.

I was talking to a neighbor of mine about exactly this the other day, and that is what he advised me to do. I'm not sure if it's an old wives tale or a simple and serious way to set them up, so i'm going to be doing a bit more digging around first.

Thanks Dave. The bikes I've built have all been hardtailed chops and I never had a problem with this method. I reckon I'll give it a go.

Chalk a few stripes across the tyre treads. Now drive a few yards. The chalk should wear off evenly, middle first too high, outsides first too low.

If your tracking is out you might see one side wearing.

What a neat idea, will do that as soon as the rain stops! Thanks.
