IVA retest pass

31 Jul 2013, 9:39pm
Had the retest today. Flew through with a couple of goes on the emissions test (needed to get the CAT nice and hot!).

Just need to register now. Unfortunately with all of the local DVLA offices closing in October, they're no longer processing new registrations - these all have to be done by Swansea now. It's going to cost a fortune to send all of my receipts off to them (it's like War & Peace).

Time to fit the hood, suspension mods ... the list goes on!

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and support.

Well done Tim. Nearly on the road.

Regarding registration. With the SVA, you needed to present the car, to the local DVLA centre, to check documents with car. Engine number etc. Might be differerent with a new registration. If you have, we came across, depending who you spoke to at the DVLA, two ways to take it. I got an official letter from the local office, to say I could drive it there to get inspected. Others were told needed to trailer it there.

Cheers Chris,

Some useful information there.

The IVA tester recommended I ring DVLA to find out what the current situation is and what I need to send off: I'm wary of sending a great wodge of original receipts only for it to be lost in the system somewhere and then having no proof. I might even try popping into my local DVLA office to see if they're still taking applications (Exeter wasn't, but Bournemouth might be).

Thanks again
Tim

When I did it back in 2009 I sent copies of the originals. Not that I didn't trust the Post office or DVLA you understand.

Just make sure you have copies of everything you send them, just in case... when I had to send them stuff they accepted scans sent by email

Hey Tim,

Well done....may finally get to see yours and mine side by side at Stoneleigh:)

Go steady for a bit 'til you have the handling sorted. Plenty of threads on here regarding spring heights, damper and tyre settings etc..

It would be nice to have them side by side!

I'm planning on sorting the suspension whilst waiting for registration (including your rear suspension mod) using the info on the forum plus a book I have on suspension.

I'm planning on taking it real easy - having taken 7 years to build it so I'm not planning on introducing it to a tree any time soon!

Cheers

Good to see the car passed the IVA. Now the fun can begin.

Before you start giving it the boards, I'd suggest checking the stock map is working acceptably with the engine. You're welcome to borrow my wideband if you fancy doing some self tuning.

well done Tim, I think my build also took approx 7 years (maybe a bit longer if I am honest) but good to get it on the road finally.
