Over on the Sammio site the guys just line their shells with ply and start from sctrach (slight oversimplification) but we don't have that option as our cars come with interiors.
The MX5 interior isn't too bad but my Z3 is a late 90's plastic wonderland.
I don't particularly want to rip everything out as I quite like the heater leather seats and working heaters for the winter and the air conditioning for the summer.
I was thinking over trimming over the top of what was there already or just replacing the top level of the BMW trim. Anyone done anything similar?
Evening Nick , yes the plastic is a bit overpowering in the Z , i removed all the plastic that runs backward from the gearstick and around the handbrake , i am sure it must be possible to remove it "gently" but its a lot easier with a junior hacksaw! watching out for all those cables , i also removed the centre section of the dash that holds the radio amongst other bits and cut it down so it doesn`t run down to the centre tunnel (for no other reason than to try and make it look different) , i covered the now exposed gearstick and handbrake with some leather gaiters from a MG ZR!! of EBAY , all the switches that were dotted aound the centre plastic section i moved up to near where the radio would sit . I then covered the area where the plastic used to sit with black trimming carpet(EBAY) , the next time i can get home from work when its light and not raining i will take some pics , it is by no means perfect but i dont claim to be a car upholstery expert , 11 days and counting for me , Geoff . PS your car really does look good , have you decided on a final colour yet?
Don't really know what look you are aiming for WCA , but I will do my interior with aluminium sheeting to create the "alloy car" Lots of rivets and joins look.
Of course I'm not sure if it suit your car?
Rather bizarrely I'm planning to go high tec on the interior and will be getting the dash etc. flocked. Looks like a great finish and you can mix and match colours.
