I have a kitcar that is based on a 1963 Hillman Imp. The kit is a BS Nymph and was only available in 1976/1977. It would have been built sometime back then. My question is the V5 names it as a Hillman Convertible not a BS Nymph something that I understand is fairly common with older kits. Is this a problem on a kit so old? My insurance company is fine with it.
I do not think this should be a problem. The key fact is that the V5 now says “Hillman Convertible” rather than “Hillman Imp” which indicates that the DVLA have changed the details and acknowledged that this is no longer a Hillman Imp.
The DVLA don’t appear to have ever had a consistent policy over the V5 manufacturer and model details for kit cars. I have a Ferrari F355 replica on an MR2 which is described on the V5C using the kit manufacturer’s name, and a Ferrari 250 GTO which is based on a Porsche which is described as a 250 GTO replica. Some of my friends F355 replicas are now being registered with the Donor car manufacturer being retained on the V5 and the model being changed to F355 replica, which is essentially what you have so I would not worry.
