Headlight covers

19 Mar 2014, 8:02pm
Hi guys
Has anybody else fitted the covers WITHOUT cracking them???
Not sure if I tightened the screws too much or the fact that I fitted them with chrome headlight rims fitted .
Ideas please to prevent this happening again .
Grrrrrrrrr

I haven't fitted mine yet but I plan to bolt them through rather than screwing.

Both mine went on fine. Then I knelt on one and cracked it. Removed the pair and cracked the other.

I reckon some kind of rubber washer/grommet is the answer.

Having fitted screens to various motorcycles over the years they use either expanding rubber mounts or plastic washers to avoid cracking the plastic.

They don't need to be too tight.
If the perspex has dipped even slightly under the screw head it's too tight.
If you need a closer fit add more screws.
Have good clearance holes for the screws because perspex enjoys thermal expansion.
Use pan heads, not csk.
