Zetec or MX5 engine ?

I want to swap the 2.0l pinto i have in my kit car, for either a 2.0l zetec to match upto the type 9 box i have or a MX5 1.8 and box.

What is the best to go for, my car is a Melos so a light weight 7esq style.

I am thinking the MX5 would be best, what are your thoughts please?

What RWD gear box will fit though? I am correct in that a Type E, pinto fitting G box will fit to the early, >2004 ST170 enignes?
Also can the DMF be change for a standard type?
