Just an introduction and a question: I've just acquired soporche mx 250 that used to be grayones. Now since the build was finished last year the car has suffered from a little bit of neglect. I want to make this pretty car beautiful again hopefully with the help of you wonderful forum members. Now the chrome work is shot so I've ordered replacements for everything and a few other things besides. But I have a question, I believe grayone used landrover headlights. Now the problem I have is that the headlight covers don't fit. I know this because the offside one is broken. My question is A: which lights do you fit and will they need different wiring from the land rover ones and B: where do I get a new offside headlight cover from?
Thank you in advance, I look forward to participating in the forum and bringing life into this car once again.
Good luck with it. Traditionally the chromework was brass with chrome plaring, some of the cheap stuff is chromed steel which doesn't last long.
MG headlights fit better than landy ones, the landy trims are a bit fatter so catch Chris's perspex covers. You can try fitting them a bit lower to give a bit more clearance.
Wiring will be the same, ask Chris for new covers.
Glad to hear that the car is being looked after. The headlight buckets were originally Land Rover units which pushed them forward too far and fouled the covers. We replaced the buckets which helped but you may wish to drop them down a few mm before replacing the covers.
Please give me a call on 07901 54421 for more info on covers.
Thanks Landmannnn, Tribute, I've tried dropping the Landy lights but with the chrome outer rings on they still foul the perspex covers. Without the chrome outer rings the lights look shite. I may have to get the Mini ones as suggested in the Tribute build manual although I'm not sure if they will foul the covers if they have outer rings on, does anybody know? Thanks for the help
Hi Danny were they the classic mini headlights 7in? The landy ones won't fit with the outer rims and they are 7in headlights. Where did you get them from? Hey Tribute the number you gave says not available? Rob
the actual light unit itself are the origional mx5 ones with 7" mini outer chrome rings sat in mini cone shaped holders that i cut the back off to access the bulbs. I got them off ebay for next to nothing. however I keep my car in a garage and when i left out for a week in the rain they started to rust. brasso sorted them out thought.
Thanks Danny, I'll look into getting the lights, where would we be without ebay? Have you tried using a spray varnish on the rings to stop moisture getting at the metal? Rob
