We all seem to like Tribute's 250SWB kit and I'm sure it will be a success. And the same can be said about it's spin-off, the 250 convertible version, but I'm sure some would like something that resembles the 250 California Spyder.
I think that with some simple modifications you can get something which looks a bit more like the original Spyder.
Here I have done a couple of Photoshops which show what could be modified.
The front only really needs a new chrome bumper and modified headlamps. Using something similar to the lights on the Z3000S or the MX GTO might be O.K.
The rear end needs a little more doing. Finned rear wings (similar to MG) and MG or Rover 2000 tailights might just
fit the bill. Rear chrome bumper and maybe a modified rear boot opening would be sufficient.
Some might not like these mods but they do make a small difference. Anyway, it's only an idea.
I'm sure the Tribute Team with all their skills could have one finished in........????
for me it has to be the hard top it makes the car and adds to the shape, the mods you propose just make it look like a fat mg from the rear. with the hard top it may look a little bit better but each to his or her own that's the beauty of kit cars you can tinker with them if you don't like it start again
I'm with you on the rear end styling, as it is it looks a bit too 427 Cobra for my liking.

I reckon adding the crease line under the lower edge of the boot will take away the MGB on steroids look Andy S mentions above. Fibreglass MGB rear wings are available for a DIY rear end job (£150 pair from Honeybourne mouldings) but I'm sure Chris and Dan could rustle up some suitable rear wings by taking a mould from a rusty old MG...
As for the front end, not all Ferrari 250 convertibles had the wider grille and faired in headlamps, this one is a 1959 series II 250GT LWB California Spyder, and the front looks remarkably similar to that on the SWB coupe -
Anyway, interesting project whichever front/rear/roof combination you like.
You are right about adding a crease line just below the boot, it would make a difference. The same as using modified Rover 2000 lights instead of the MG units. A nice pair of exhausts would also go well.
I do like the look of that 59 California Spyder.
