Hello and help

19 Aug 2015, 6:46am
Good morning all

I recently purchased a 71 Spartan (cortina based). The car is quite tatty but seems to drive alright. I've never done the whole forum thing before but I figured problem solving is easier the more heads you have.

All that said, I have encountered my first issue of many on the Spartan. The rear of the vehicle is a lot lower one side than the other, can't say I noticed when I went to look it so maybe it's happpen in the last few weeks or maybe my man looking skills aren't what I thought.

Anyways, don't have a great deal of time at the moment so would like to purchase the spares, I might need before I drop the rear axle.
The o/s rear of the Spartan is sat on the rubber rebound and the n/s is about 2" off.

Any ideas?

The running gear is from a 71 cortina gxl.

Many thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this isn't posted in the correct area.

Broken or weak spring, knackered shock or both

I doubt if anything is bent just budget for new springs, shocks and bushes in the rebuild

Thanks mate, that's what I was hoping for. Now just to find a little time and sweet talk someone into letting me use their ramp.

You don't need a ramp if you mean a garage lift. Jack, axle stands solid wood blocks. Ramps are nice to drive up. Good luck.

Ok so I found a spare hour and I've found the problem.

The o/s spring is shorter (see pic) not by much but it is. It also looks shorter on one side, so it's not been sitting square.
Is this likely to be age related/wear or is there going to be another reason why the o/s spring seems to be on the wonk?
