Just joined - a few questions on Kit Cars

20 Aug 2015, 11:45am
Hello everyone.

I have ridden bkes for over 30 years, and following a recent nasty accident am now going to give up bikes, and I am considering replacing my bikes with a kit car.

I have a few questions which I hope someone can give me some guidance on.

1. Are Kit Cars easy / cheap to insure - are there are specialist insurers you recommend?

2. Any recommendation on the "best" cars to buy? Personally I like the caterham / lotus / robin style of car.

3. Although very mechanically capable I would probably want to buy a ready built and registered example - is ebay the best place to look?

4. Any tips on what to look for in a used example.

5. My budget is probably 10K tops - so any recommendations on what I might get for this?

Appreciate there are quite a few questions, but I am totally new to this.

Cheers.

Andy based in Somerset.

Hey Andy,

Way to many variables in your questions

1. At least in the US insurance is going to depend of the vehicle. depending on who you insure with they may want receipts of everything, an appraisal, etc.
2. The best kit car to buy is the one you like. Sure people can recommend manufactures but its up to you to decide what you want to drive.
3. eBay is ok. Forums, craigslist, etc . All places to look.
4. This depends on what you are looking for.
5. $10k does not get very far. But again it depends on what you are looking for and what you can do with/without
