Yep that is how mine is too, only have to twist it part way to allow it to clear. Richard at Nubodi did something different I am sure he will reply, as its a pain, or a security feature!

Of course once my paint is on the car I don't want any scratches so might take a different view then.

Not really much to see at the moment, customers work has been busy so my toy has had to wait a bit, just hanging the lights and other furniture on it at the moment.

I will do a build thread when it has moved on a bit.

I will need to check tomorrow but I think the very similar boot handle on the Triumph Herald stands away a bit more than those Mini ones ...

That was my other thought Gary, look for a T handle type lock, thing is the Mini one does look quite good on it.

Try some of the Cobra replica guy's, may be the one.

This is a simple one

Obviously you made the hole where its shown on the moulding in the fibreglass. Ignore this and make it 5mm lower and fill the dip with filler.

The boot handle can be turned anywhere you want and will not touch.

However as you have already done this you need to make a spacer to locate the lock out from the body till it clears the bootlid. Hard rubber or have it machined out of stainless will do the trick.

Jeff, where did you get the chrome/stainless rectangular trim part with the up and over type catch from? (It looks good).

Jeff - mines exactly the same although obviously the Kalifornia has a larger boot lid and different opening angle - 20 to 2 to open - you have to be very precise as well don't turn it enough and it still latches, too much and the boot clips the handle when you open it. Mini mk 1 boot handle?

Thanks for the replies, Scott, Yes a Mini Mk1 handle will clear and has the same square drive, may look in to this.

Richard, may try to lower it a bit and see if that helps, and yes I did cut the hole using the mark in the mould, I blame Chris for that...


Mikewade, I had the trim left over from an ordinary door lock, it had the indent for the catch, i just nipped it off with a disc cutter and extended the slot, I have a spare one in my tool box, Yours if you want it ? PM me your address and I will post it out to you.
