In an effort to find a cheap "period" looking wheel I'v come up with this conversion which I think are a good tribute not replica of the Dunlop style wheel as used on many of the classic racing cars.





This is fitted to a standard VW Golf 14" wheel with a simple chrome rim trim. They do not stick out passed the body work so they should not suffer from "garage rash".

I had the aluminium disc custom made and the 3 eared spinner is a ABS plastic unit which just screws on.

I'm not sure how to fix them yet as with out a spacer the wheel nuts will foul the spinner.
I have though of drilling and tapping the ends of the wheel studs and fitting the disc's with a allen keys, round head or counter sunk head. Or drilling and tapping the hub to the fixing is hidden under the spinner.



If there's enough interest I'll look seriously into making them in sets of four to order to fit individual wheels and PCD's.

I have now tried the wheel stud idea and I think it'll work.

I drilled just 2 of the wheel studs and taped a thread into then.



I then drilled the aluminium disc to suit and screwed the on.

The set of 4 was less than £40 to do.
It will be interesting to see how things hold up on the road.

I did some rudge replica's a few years back , using 65 Beetle rims ...I drilled and tapped the wheel bolts and the idea worked out really well ...

Your approach does tidy up otherwise uninteresting steel wheels and for a lot less than the aftermarket versions from Speedway etc...
