My favorate part of any build is choosing the color. With my 250 SWB coupe kit arriving next month, I have been busy accumulating all of the needed exterior body trims, headlights, etc.
Found a pristine 2.8 5-speed with only 48K miles, one owner, garage kept and all service records by a BMW dealer. As a 1998 Z3, it looks like it left the showroom last week.
Down side:
Green leather seats and beige trim interior. I'll not do anything to the interior.
My only color choices to look reasonably well with the green interior will be
Metallic silver/grey
Fly Yellow
Old English White
Dark Green
At the moment, I am strongly considering the Dark Green (original BMW color).
This is the color of the Z3. Saves painting the door jams, etc.
There was one original car in Dark Green metallic that looks pretty good too.
What are your opinions on the color. I'm not locked in yet..
Don't ruin the car just for the sake of using the green seats.
When you have finished the build you will turn your attention to the interior. You may want to consider the dash that Barber is developing with Chris or go the whole hog and go with the one Chris has already designed.
Dark colours show up every imperfection.
Yellow can look a bit flashy
Green would just be wrong

Painting the door jambs and under the front wings was a very small job on my car.

Antique white would be my next choice. I'll see if I can attach a photo of the green 250 too.
My donor car was Boston Green so I have the door shuts, etc issues with it being white. It's the Z300S still in white gel coat with wrapped doors. Final colour is likely to be a "bright" white such as Ford Arctic with red stripes.
My interior is beige but with the seats being so heavy and having troublesome electrics, they are close to the top of the list for replacement. I'll be looking for a mid brown or "almond" shade on those.
Molleur look forward to seeing your build , from a personal perspective , although getting the body work done first gets your project moving , once your coupe bodywork is completed it is significantly more difficult to work on the interior , if you think that that there is any possibility that you may change the interior consider doing it first , that Z3 looks like an exceptional car to start with , all the best Geoff .

I simply may have to put off the interior for a bit, difficult as it will be post body install. Have a bit of time to decide though.
I’m sure I saw someone on this forum dying their coloured leather seats black, which might be a quick/cheap short term fix.
That would be me. Changed the hearing aid beige into black. Kit worked well though prep is everything to make sure the dye will take to the seat well. I didnt scrub the drivers seat base enough and have a few specks of beige showing again after about 3 years of use. It was my first time doing such a task though so hard to be perfect first time round. Overall the seats still look great though. I'd do it again if I had to.

Has all your clothing ended up black after you've sat in the seats?
Lol. ..I maybe made it sound worse than it actually is in my post. There has been very little wear in 3/4 years to be fair. The kit is really good stuff.
