Hey guys,
Really struggling over in NZ to get a steering wheel boss to fit my Nardi steering wheel that I have bought.
Tried a generic E36 boss today and it wouldn’t fit, wouldn’t fit the splines on the shaft.
Some info suggests that it could be an E39 fitment because it has an airbag? Is the shaft a different size?
I have found from other feeds that people have fitted OMP STEERING WHEEL HUB BOSS KIT fits BMW Z3 95-02 [OD/1960BM545A]

This of course will need a pcd spacer for the Nardi fitment, but that is no issue.
So I suppose the question is for a 1999 z3 2.8 with an Msport airbag wheel (dual stage?) set up anyone know what I can fit?

I am looking to keep horn usage and steering lock action with whatever I fit. Going to fit a Farina symbol or Nardi Torino horn button assy in the centre.

Any advice is really appreciated, I have spent more hours researching this now this week than working on the car! I bow to your knowledge.....

A Momo part # 2008 should do it. A PCD spacer would be needed as you indicated.

I have not tried it yet myself, but that is my plan

Momo indicates the #2008 boss will retain the self-cancelling turn signals as well. A bit pricey too.

Hi Molleur, thanks for the inputs etc. This is where it is getting confusing and contradictory. The Momo application guide says #2008 is used for E36 up to 1998. It quotes #2011 as used in E36 all years. As you say these things can be pricey from certain sources and if I get it wrong i’ll be paying more for the hub than the Nardi wheel!

Plus with me trying an e36 hub and it wouldn’t fit the splines is troubling as well.

I have also found #2012 listed as fitting it as well! That is e46 fitment.

Certainly interested to know how the ones who have already swapped over have managed it and what they used/functions after the swap.

Of course, this is a lot more expensive. When fitting the "clock spring" assembly i could only get 2 of the 3 mounting screws in but it all works and cancels the indicators as well.
no spacers were needed.

Yet again guys this forum and you lot within it come up trumps. Awesome stuff. The web is a wonderful thing but when it tells you 3 different options and only one is local it is very confusing and just spending money on all of it can be reckless! (In the good ladies eyes anyway. We see it as research funds!)

The progress has been snails pace at times but as long as forward motion I am not getting too bonkers! I am in Auckland also so can definitely catch up at some point when a bit more “car” is built! Keep watching the build thread in Old No 7 and you’ll know how I am doing. Cheers mate.

Not sure if this helps but here is what I did for mine.

Behind the steering wheel I simply replaced the BMW bit with a shiny chrome version.

The steering wheel wouldn't fit and I couldn't find anything that would fit so got a pair of metal discs made up. The one at the back bolted to the steering column and the on in front bolted through the steering wheel into the other piece. The wheel is bolted in place and sandwiched between the metal plates.

My solution mirrors WCA's using the sandwich approach but with one of these in the centre.

That's the horn button.
I don't remember the last time I used the horn so being out the way isn't an issue

Nice approaches guys. For the NZ guys looking at this and the fact that I have taken the LVV approach in the certification, I am probably going to stick with the horn button in the centre of the wheel as that will probably give me the path of least resistance to the cert. Fondling looking at either Farina or Nardi centre graphics on the horn button. I have made the call no prancing horses in sight for this build.
I am also toying with a tentative name for the kit as well:

Italia 275 Prototipo .

Great name. If that’s the case a steering wheel called the same from MOMO is an idea. Even if it is not as nice as the Nardi

Have a look for custom ITALIA badges on evilbay. Lots available and very reasonable.

Good idea Dave, some of the earlier MOMO wheels of this design look pretty cool but I have to stick with the Nardi at the moment, just does it for me!
