Has anyone got any tips oh the wedge style bulb holders? Mine continually fail, you need to remove the bulb, fiddle around until it works and then put it back together. Chances are that by the time you have put it back it won't be working again.
They are the standard push-in bulb holders that come with the Lucas P700 headlights. The bulb contacts combined with cheap and nasty bulb holders are a recipe for disaster. On the Tribute they are quite easy to get too but on theCalifornia, you have to remove the headlight bezels and the perspex covers first, it is only a matter of time before I crack a cover.
Does anyone know of any quality replacements that will work? The bulb holder needs to be the flexible rubber type that just pushes into the rear of the headlight glass.
I hit a similar problem with my Monaco, the spades on the holder fouled the 5.75" lamp bucket and popped when I tried to bend them. My solution? I pulled the terminals out of the holder, threaded the wires from four white 12v LEDs through it and Araldited their heads in. I crimped the wires together with spade connectors to mate with some I crimped to the loom. Bulbs no longer necessary and fail safe sidelights - job done . Did the same with my Westie, Marlin and A352.

Araldite dribbles are visible, and the LEDs aren't perfectly aligned, but they'll pass muster at the MOT . Seems I didn't use spades after all...

Hi Mick. Where did you buy those individual LEDs? How bright are they? They have given me an idea for upgrading the rear number plate / reversing light assembly on my old Classic. It has limited clearance for fitting replacement bayonet LEDs, some of which are of doubtful quality and beam direction. Peter.
Hi Pete, their brightness is difficult to quantify subjectively, but is quite adequate. I also made some other bulbs for this project here - post #346. The supplier is here. As it's only the MOT examiner who needs to be satisfied (I can't see my doing any night time driving) I'm sure they'll do. Hope this helps.
