Just wanted to warn you all further regarding SVA and Registration at my Local VOSA Centre & DVLA Offices.
It's now just over a month that my 5EXi got the thumbs up from my local SVA Centre, John (Limpabit had joined me) for the final test and we clebrated in style with a great cup of tea.
John suggested we go straight to get the vehicle registered but I resisted the temptation and came home to complete the paperwork.
I sent everything in receipts, documents, driving licence, bank statement, SVA Cert and a covering letter explaining my intentions towards the registration of the vehicle and waited.
After 10 days the driving licence and bank statements were returned with a compliments slip saying I would shortly hear from the vehicle inspector re an appointment.
Today 30th June, I telephoned to find out why he had not been in touch only to be told there is only one such inspector in the area and there is a high demand for inspections???????, in addition he has been on holiday. I was advised he was due back on Tuesday 4th July and to expect a phone call sometime later in the week to arrange for the inspection. So I guess around 10th to 15th July.
I think that this is very poor service, but who can you complain too? will it actually improve things if I did complain? Doubt it very much.
All I can say is no matter which kit you are building avoid Essex for test and registration if at all possible. With such a demand on 1 inspector Essex must be the build capital of the u.k.
Its not just Essex. My friend had just completed his sva and contacted Bournemouth DVLA and was told the same. Only after a lot of complaining and telling them his car was booked on a ferry to france in 2 weeks did they relent and let him take the car to the dvla centre to be inspected there.
When he arrived he was told that they would not except the 17 digit chassis no. the kit supplier had stamped on the chassis and that they would supply another number in a few days. Then 7 days later he got a call his registration was completed and ready to collect. When he picked it up it was on the original chassis number. and they were not aware of any problem with his chassis number. You cant beat a good govenment agency

The man from the ministry or Chelmsford DVLA did call me on 4th July and said he could view the car the following day.
He arrived around 3 and spent quite a while on the car, but failed to find the engine number. Now bearing in mind that I wanted to use an age related plate this presented a huge problem, however he did say that if I could provide additional proof after he had gone it would be accepted.
Anyway he left saying that if I did not hear anything for 4 weeks to contact him on another number.

Telephone call received from err in doors, brown envelope arrived........yes!!!!
a K plate can be used, now all I need to do is send em a cheque and i'M away, o.k. still got to transfer my EXI plate on to it but it can be driven in the mean time.
I would like to pass my thanks on to all those who use this site and have assisted me in the past 30 months. I have read in envy those who have completed their builds and the reports of how the car performs, now it's my turn or it will be when my doctor lifts the driving restriction off me.

I decided to bite the bullit and go with Marlins seats.
Yes they are expensive, but they are very comfortable and a great talking point.
Over the weekend my brother saw the car for the first time, he was amazed at my finished product. He sat behind the wheel and sparked up the engine, almost as quick he turned off and hopped out saying it sounds lethal and no way did he want to try it, not even up the drive!
