Does anyone know if any gearstick and selector rods can be used as Rover do 3 different types and I would rather fit the mgzr stick rather than the 1 of the 1.6
Marlin say that any bubble shape donor can be used even the mg versions but they are so different to look at on the epc
I've used one from a 216, but instead of bending the rod straight, I welded in a new section of 3/4" tube. As you'll find out, trying to bend the OEM rod straight is quite difficult - really it needs to be put in a roller.
Just ordered today all the parts for the 1.6 from Rover will be in by wednesday so will have a mess around on thurs and see if I can get it fitted cause dont have welder or roller

You can bend it in a vice and it'll be perfectly useable. I just wasn't happy with it, so remade it.
Gent's I also had to source a 1.6 gear linkage (or you can use a 1.4 as they are the same) as my donor is the 1.8 vvc GTI. Anyway I bent it very easily in the vice (cold, not heated up). It took just ten minutes to get it more or less straight. It does not need to be perfect as it is hidden in the gear linkage tunnel.
I fitted the gearstick assembly today, straightforward but have realised that I do not have the green bush that sits on top of the rear chassis so will have to phone Marlin!
The gear selector rod bent very easily in the vice and looks perfectly straight only took a few minutes!

PS Does anybody know if the brake cables are meant to screw right into the t pieces? Because mine dont as the brake cable thread is about 1 cm too long on all the cables! I think it should as isn't that what the copper washers are for to get a good seal??

I guess you're referring to the hydraulic hoses, in which case they don't screw in so far that the thread is no longer visible. The copper washers are for the banjos on the calipers.
Cheers for that! I only had the build poctures to go off and on that they are up tight with washers clearly in place on t pieces but they are obviously not needed!
