Gloop for BMW Brake Calipers

21 Sep 2006, 12:18pm
Does anyone know what the gloop is that BMW recommend you lubricate the sliding parts of the brakes calipers with. I have just rebuilt mine with new seals and dust covers for the pistons, but having degreased everything I need to re-lubricate the sliding parts.

I know BMW do something - but I don't really want to drive all the way to my local BMW dealer yet again....

Cheers

When I did mine, I bought guide pin repair kits which came with the gloop... Looking on RealOEM, it mentions something called "PLASTILUBE BEUTEL A 5,5 ML" - I guess this is the stuff.

[edit] - no, that's not it - that's the anti squeal stuff...

Would have thought something like this would be about right:

No - I've got some of that and the consistancy is completely different to the BMW supplied gloop.

The more I think about it, I think plastilube is the stuff you use - but I'd double check with BMW...

The Plastilube just seems to be a moly based high temperature grease. I woudn't have thought that was good to use on the pins. I don't suppose you still l have the container that the gloop BMW supplied for the pins was in?

Hi Robin,
my calipers came with the little sachet of grease as well, but I am pretty sure it's just Silicone Grease.

I think you can get it at a good plumbers merchants because it is used to lubricate those push together waste pipes and fittings (you know the 4" bog pipes)

Thanks Peter

I have seen "silicon grease mentioned before in connection with the brake callipers but can't remember where - so I think that confirms it.
