Does anyone understand how Marlin got a new '06' registration number for their latest Customer car? (WA06 ORZ)

I thought you were only allowed one reconditioned part, e.g. the engine.
But their diff, rear suspension and drive shafts looked recovered and I doubt if they fitted a new gearbox?
Front hubs and bearings don't look new, either.

Perhaps we can all get new registrations?

I'll comment from a practise I heard about in the GTM world. If you want an age related plate on your GTM Libra/Spyder AND you want the V6 engine you buy the metro donor and the rover V6 engine and then send the new engine number off to the DVLA as being a new engine in the donor. Your V5 now has that engine in it. Now use it as your donor.....
No idea how legal/moral/dodgy this is and I couldn't tell you anyone thats done it so it may be a rumour but thats how someone (in a pub) explained to me to ensure your age related plate.....

dont think you do if the engine is a pre cat engine.

That would work quite well, I always thought it was the year the car was registered, not the age of the block?

from what ive read/assumed its based on the age of the engine, could do with finding out tho, otherwise i might have issues for registration in a month or so eek.

Andy, I was talking about a new '06' registration, not an age related plate. I think your pub story is to avoid a 'Q' plate.

I think this is a registration question, rather than an SVA question. SVA will test the emmisions based on the age of the engine which is why it is important to go with proof of engine age. (Usually the donor V5 with engine number)

I think Robin may be right and it might be down to the local DVLA registration inspector?

I wonder if Marlin will share their secret? I think I have fitted as many new and reconditioned parts as Marlin in my build.
It we be great if we could all get new registration plates? The question is will it be 56, 07,57,08.......??

I agree Peter that it doesn't quite fit how to get an 06 - unless their donor was an 06 beemer! FAB have a few sub 1000 mile write offs on their site last time I looked...

i think the key to getting a new plate is to state the engine has been reconditioned to an "as new" standard, obviously they'd want to see a recipt for that, but im sure everyone can arrange something along those lines
Just present them to show them that pratically everything on the car is new and i think you can get a new plate.

I was thinking more along the lines of MOT, or do they go by the age of the block as well?
