New Classified Ads site from the makers of Madabout

19 Mar 2004, 1:53pm
Our Used Car and Motorcycle site - PurpleAds.com has been in the making for the last year.

It is a FREE motoring classifieds website to take on the likes of Autotrader :eusa_liar: - we wish :eusa_pray:

It is FREE for both private individuals and traders and you can use it as often as you like.

I would be grateful if the Madabout community could give it a bit of a test run - if you've genuinly got a car for sale then give it a go and let us know what you think.

If you like it then don't forget to spread the word, tell your friends, family, work colleagues, forum and chat rooms you frequent.

The more the people know about it the better as 50% of any profit made from the site (banner ads) goes straight to charity, and always will :eusa_angel:

More information can be found here PurpleAds - how we give to charity

Thanks in advance

John

Nice idea John

I hope you push the charity bit as much as possible with all the advertisers. Maybe even see if they want to donate?

I'll give it a try and if I manage to sell my car through it, I'll donate a few quid for you to give to said charites.

I've registered, but can't get past the page where it asks if you are private or trader.

help!

Ok, I've just tested this and it works ok with IE6. I'm suspecting it may be a browser issue - from memory are you using IE5 on windows 98?

Do you get any errors showing or does the page just sit there not doing anything?

I bloomin hate all these different browsers

Cheers for trying it out though Mark, much appreciated.

I'm using IE5.5 and Win 2000.

I can login. When I ask to place an advert it askes me to login again, then goes through the agreement and when I press for 'private ad' it goes back to login.

It seems to want to loop through this and not let me get any further.

Cheers Mark, I've got a 2000 setup lurking around somewhere. I'll try and replicate the problem.

Can't replicate the problem at the mo as my 2000 machine has only got IE5 on it which worked ok. We are still looking into it though.

A plea to everyone else, please try www.purpleads.com out even if you havn't got a car or motorbike for sale - just make an advert up (you can delete it straight after). It will prove very useful to us to get your feedback as it's very difficult to cover every eventuality that people will come across.

Cheers, guys and gals in advance

Mark

I've tested out Windows 2000 with both IE 5 and IE5.5 sp2 (the only 5.5 version I could get hold of) and both worked ok so I'm not able to replicate the problem you are having.

Can I suggest that you try another browser such as Opera or Mozilla or upgrade to IE 6.

Thanks for having a go.

Keep checking back to PurpleAds as there will soon be many thousands of ads to browse through. :eusa_dance:

Just a quick update..

We now have a few more used cars to browse through - nearly a thousand.

A long way to go of course to Autotraders 280 odd thousand but it's a start.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone that's had a look from Madabout. I can see quite a number of you have taken the time to register. It's much appreciated.

Keep checking back and don't forget to spread the word to friends and family if you like the site and why we are doing it.

And remember it's FREE

Cheers, John
