I am thinking, would there be any benifit in you going to an auction, or trade outlet to get yourself a Rover, if only to get a few parts you need, and possibly use the age related number after scraping the car. I appreciate you have already spent out alot, but a car may only cost a small amount. I had my car srapped for £15.
Otherwise I have used the rad from a Rover 2l turbo coupe, but my original donor car was a P Reg 1600 Kseries buble shape Rover 216, and that rad was ok. I had a cooling issue, otherwise would have kept the old rad.
Try Adrian at British car parts, to see what he offer you, he has helped me and a pal out several times.
One way is all new/recon parts. That way you get a new registration.
Another way is to use a donor. You need two major components (eg engine/gearbox). You will then get the donor registration. You need to buy the donor before it goes in the breakers because it is classed as scrapped when in breakers.
The other way is using parts from different cars. You will then get a "Q" reg. But this method has it's problems. Can't remember them though.

When you come to purchase the filler neck (which isn't actually on the donor parts list on the marlin site) you need the metal type from a 1.6 200 circa 1996 not the plastic type I have spent over £200 on 3 of these before I got the right one
As for the filler neck after having spoken to a few builders your best bet is a breakers for the neck as all you need is the first 8 inches and as it is right up in the body it apparently does not suffer from rust!
From rover this part is ouch!!!! about £137
If you buy the gearstick assembly from rover all you need is the actual gearstick and only the top selector rod these are only about £55....you dont need to buy all the bushes for the assembly as all these come with it another expensive lesson I learnt
The CD has been of help to me several times, well worth the money.
I the matter of the filler, I did not realise there were several derivetives, I was obviously lucky, got mine off a M reg 214 at a breakers. Dont forget to take off the rubber hose connecting the tank to the pipe, as Craig says, you only need a short lenth, maybe worth taking a hacksaw with you.
With the rad, did Marlin put in the 2 rubbers at the bottom, these are required to sit the rad in, otherwise you will need to order them, perhaps from a Rover agent. They are about 40MM in diameter, and about the same long.
