What would you like Chris to build you?

Even though there'll soon be a Tribute model of many pre 65 iconic GT cars there's always room for more.
What would you like Chris to build you, and on which base vehicle.

My starter is for a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray with the split rear window on a Z3 -

An Alfa Romeo TZ1, like the one in the link, here:

http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/...12-04-13_A.jpg

A car inspired by this but not a slavish replica would be great. Based on the MK2 MX5, panel-conversion style. Lovely.

Mister Towed 1st February 2014 11:23

One of these please -

Modern mid engined donor, perhaps MGF or MR2, or maybe even an off the wall choice like Fiat X1-9.

And I know DeHavilland do one on the MGF already, but have you seen their price list?

WorldClassAccident 1st February 2014 11:33

Not sure what donor could easily be rebodied as this

Loving the viper

GazDavies 1st February 2014 12:39

Ive always been a fan of a 1958 corvette, the first one with twin headlamps. Having said that I would love a single seater like the Lotus above or a cooper climax but to do that properly would need to be a space frame chassis and IVA route.

Down&Out 1st February 2014 14:07

I think he's built nearly all the cars i hanker over!

Jensen interceptor maybe...

zagmad 1st February 2014 15:08

donor cars with large rear windows like the mx3 any good. convertible cars. z3 seems good one so far as the body panels can be removed boot, wings front and back. gt6 convertible

Ollie 1st February 2014 17:16

I like the idea of a daily driver exotica, and i like the Z3 as a base, so i'd like to see how the Ferrari Daytona Spyder would fit....(hmmm, one like the one at the back of the workshop perhaps.....) or for a car with a roof, the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe.....

y cymro 1st February 2014 17:38

What about one of Mr Clark's Escorts?

Really liking all the cars you wish Cris could build for you. I think I will have one of each. ;-)

The thing is many of them are already available.

The split window Corvette that y cymro mentions can be done on a late model Vette and is available from Karls Customs Corvettes.

http://cdn.speednik.com/files/2010/1...upe-new-63.jpg

The Ferrari Dino replica that Mister Towed likes is an MR2 is a kit by J.H. Classics.

http://replicars.files.wordpress.com...2-w600h450.jpg

And the 1960,s Formula 1 replica that WCA likes is called the Tiger ERA HSS.

http://www.sovereigncarsales.co.uk/i...HOTS%20002.jpg

As for an early 50,s or 60,s Corvette how about this idea of a modern styled classic Cvette. Take a Pontiac Solstice, remove front and rear parts and make new body parts something like this.

y cymro 1st February 2014 18:04

Wow, I like that Corvette

Edit: just found that the Karl's Kustom Corvette is $129,800 so I've gone off it

I'm sure Cris would build one for a fraction of that price.

Good point, and a C6 Corvette can't be that expensive.

OK, time to go out on a limb, I want a modern version of a Husler, mixed with a Hummer, a 2l ish auto engine, propper tube chassis (like on a sand rail) mixed with a fun interior & exterior, one thats Multipurpose. It must have a low floorline at the rear, and a wheelchair ramp. But more important than that it must not look like a van that takes a wheelchair as an extra. The only thing I have seen as a start is a Desert Iris 4x4 (but I may have to remove the machine gun). and we dont drive much in the desert. I'm fed up driving a big van when something smaller would be better! The other car is easy, its just the MX AMZ with no roof- but thats for when I'm alone.

scimjim 2nd February 2014 06:58

You need a Supacat LRV400 Dave :)

G'day OD, have you considered going small rather than huge? My thinking is that with something very low with no doors, like a Seven, Marlin Sports/Roadster or Mini Moke, the driver's or passenger seats could be accessed by a wheelchair user by sliding across from chair to car and vice-versa for the exit. A Ribble/Miglia with suicide doors and carefully placed grab handles could also be made to work. The cars listed above all have enough luggage space behind the seats to put a lightweight folding chair and all could be built with auto boxes and adapted controls easily enough.

If I ever lost the use of my legs I would still want a ridiculous sports car to blow the cobwebs out with occasionally. Just a thought.

EL PRIMER 2nd February 2014 08:26

not quite the same but a Hot Rod buddy of mine locally has just sold a T bucket Hot Rod to a guy in Kent who has lost a leg.
The guy is fitting a hand clutch to compensate for this .
He wanted a manual car still and thats the solution for him.

DSG4ME 2nd February 2014 11:58

How about building something which is a mix of several of Tributes kits and creating something different.

A COBRARRI for example. (Z3 based)

Mitchelkitman 2nd February 2014 16:17

Like the Cobrarri idea - that one is achievable!
The issue with most of the others is the glass!
I recall the great kit car man Richard Oakes stating that in designing a kit car you start with the glass - for an original rather than a replica that would be sound advice I'm sure. For a replica (unless you can get original glass) it would be very expensive.

Paul L 2nd February 2014 17:54

Doesn't look like you would have to worry too much about a windscreen to fit this...

http://www.bugattirevue.com/revue35/13.jpg

Although if you are reading this thread Chris, my advice to you is to STOP!

:icon_wink:

Instead, give yourself a break from development for a while and "just" churn out your existing range for a bit.

Cheers, Paul. :)

WorldClassAccident 2nd February 2014 18:01

I agree with DSG4ME and Paul

With the 2 part construction of the Z3 based kits Chris can recoup some of his considerable investment by banging out the kits while still offering the variety of Ferrari-Masterati, Maserati-D-type, Aston / etc

Yep, agree about the glass issue. Just check out this Dino parts price list -

http://www.dehavillandmotorcompany.c...rice-List.html

£2,760 for the front, rear and side windows. Ouch!

Ozzie Dave 2nd February 2014 18:51

I like the 400 Idea also, but have further problems, firstly that the temperature must be stable, here we have 30-40 degree heats often, and greater than 2 degrees above body temp means seizures- hence AC everywhere we go is not optional. Also rules on Kits here are very strict, new engines side protection 4200Nm torsion test for 4cyls, 6400 for 6's and above and 1-2K enginers reports. its just the fact the vehicles are over 60K new make it worthwhile. Yes I have a 7 (building for over 10 years is that a record) but the regs annoy me , chris's kits wont need them! and yes I love the cobra/ferrari merge!

fatbloke 2nd February 2014 19:39

Alfa has built some pretty cars over the years. We could fill this thread with Alfas. Might struggle with the glass though.

fatbloke 2nd February 2014 21:40

I reckon one of these would be a great donor for a Dino replica.

AndyP57 3rd February 2014 10:37

Bejaysus! Chris must already have a heap of ideas (though some of these are awesome!).

Some say he wanders around Asda car park with a rucksack full of glass mat and resin to take moulds off any car he likes the looks of,
Others say he laminates in his sleep.
All we know is,
He's called Chris !

fatbloke 3rd February 2014 12:19

Now here's a thought, there are casting resins which can be made optically clear. If you need an odd shaped piece of "glass", other than for the windscreen, you could make a mould and pour the resin in.

http://www.hapcoweb.com/ultraclear.htm

WorldClassAccident 3rd February 2014 12:30

Chris tried the clear resins but it just didn't look right :

I really like this tread, the ideas and the cars mentioned, but I think Paul is right, I have enough development to do for this year. But the boat tail Auburn above has always been my favorite car........

garyh 4th February 2014 08:10

I hadn't even noticed the exhausts.

EL PRIMER 4th February 2014 08:38

Thats ok Gary.
Chris hadn't noticed its not an Auburn Speedster!!

WorldClassAccident 4th February 2014 08:55

You might want to think twice before doing a copy as there may be legal issues and we know that no-one likes those

http://www.auburnspeedsters.com/2nd_...on_auburns.htm

zagmad 4th March 2014 14:30

Wouldn't mind a look at a zagto db4 with a gto or db6 back end. Alfa Romeo spyder duetto 1965.

zagmad 4th March 2014 15:12

Also bin looking at some of the period cars. Renault alpine,Ferrari dino or tribute version with front engine with rear drive. Could use the boot then with curves of the dino. Bit more predictable handling. Aston db mk111 has a boot hatch like an etype.

WorldClassAccident 4th March 2014 16:26

I have a pristine Ferrari in the garage, do you think Chris would re-body it as that Japanese classic, the MX5?

Ideally it would look like a well used version

This is what I have got
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...0_GTO_34_2.jpg

and this is what I need Chris to make

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psd16fdebd.jpg

It is a shame he is just too busy

zagmad 4th March 2014 16:56

My car looks just like that . With extra holes for ventilation :-)

zagmad 4th March 2014 16:57

Only mines silverish/whiteish/blackish brown
