Push button cut off?

Does anyone know where I can get a smallish push button latching switch that is rated at a high enough ampage to allow it to be tapped into the constant 12v main feed?

I am wanting to put a hidden one under the dash but not one of the large red key types?

Craig,

Just got a new BMW 3 series and the push button start for that is sweet.

No idea how it latches, etc...or cost...but it looks and feels the biz.

Rich, I already have push button start, I did not really explain myself properly.

I still want to be able to use the key if the button were to fail for example!

But in normal circumstances the key would not work as there would be a hidden switch under the dash that has cut off the feed to the ignition (key), but I would still have the feed to the push button (start) in the center console?

I think that makes sense?

I could just use a standard switch but I think it would burn out

Use a relay that can handle the power and switch it with your latching button

Hi Craig.

If I'm reading this correct, you have a push button start. And want another start method in the form of a key under your dash in case the button fails?

If so, you should already be using a trigger start onto a relay using the push button start. Or maybe your not and that's why you want a high current key.:)

If it's using a relay already, just run the key in parallel with the push button start. If not, I havn't a clue where you would get a high current key switch.

Nope! I have ignition key and push button start at the moment but dont want the ignition key to start the car unless I need it (emergency)

The push button I have is connected to a battery cut off key so I can immobilise the car.....but at present if immobilised the ignition key would still work.

I can easily cut feed to the ignition barrel and only use the button start but this is not ideal if the button fails.

Ps Jerry, that maybe the solution just means lots more wiring than I wanted with the daah in pace

Sorry for the crap drawing. But is it like this?

Yes John thats it! but although the starter button is taken from the main feed it does not loop back round to it otherwise cut off would not work

Cut of is between button and ign! I could of put it before ign to cut both but that would defeat the object
just need a switch prefer small push button between starter relay and ign barrel to use as cut off

ok I think I have it.:icon_mrgreen:

If so, what you should have done at the beginning, is put the cut off the other side of the push start. Then you could have wired the ign start wire to that as well.

Why not have just and on/off switch in the ign start wire under the dash instead of a key?
