Zagmad, thanks, I Think the front could be done on a z3 with either the swb 250 narrow/short, per wca or the 275 with recessed headlights. The big challenge for me is how to do the back half and get the narrowing in width and short drop of the round version vs the more gradual one of the cut off version. Which the 275 on the z3 or mx250 on mx5 have. The porche coupe rear has more like the drop i need, but has a humped profile for the engine, so needing a rework of the whole central section top to bottom as you look from the back.

this is hard.

zagmad 27th November 2016 20:57

Might be worth getting pics of all the profiles of all the available models that could be contenders and see if they can be scaled down to meet your vision. The round back has a deep line flowing front to back

zagmad 28th November 2016 21:26

Would a mr2 roadster be a good start to make a classic Porsche 912e replica. Giving it a boot would make it more usable. Specially like the mr2 1993 shape it had its engine then a kind of boot space then the bumper.

Barber 28th November 2016 22:23

Will get back to this soon. On family hospital duty for a few days. There is always something.

fatbloke 1st December 2016 12:46

I'd love to recreate this. This is from the film Harold and Maude, they drove the one they built off a cliff :-(

RhysN 5th December 2016 08:45

What about the 1930's BMW 328 (sorry if it has been mentioned before) on a Z3 base?

Barber 5th December 2016 10:25

That is a nice looking car. Gangster.

Charman.tech 5th December 2016 16:29

Seeing the E Type creation reminds me

Having several XJS cabriolets hanging around and having chopped the body up on the SE5 to form the G46. It then occurred to me that the rear top half of the SE5 along with the tail gate grafted onto the XJS would make a great Eventer type car.

I did a drawing of this but do not know how to post it anyone fancy doing a photo-shop of the beast I describe

Leatherseat 5th December 2016 17:09

An XJ-S Eventer style car would be great. A couple of months ago there was an Aston DB7 'shooting brake' style, fibre glass body for sale on Ebay. I believe this was based on a Scimitar body.

This approach using the majority of an XJ-S could be a wonderful approach. I am all ears on this suggestion....

Jaguartvr 5th December 2016 18:24

Rusty with poor electrics, I had 2 when they were current, wouldn't dream of trying to do anything with one. Your would have to cut it about which would mean an Iva, would be a nightmare.
Scimitar would be a much better starting point.

lancelot link 5th December 2016 18:58

This is Jane Goldman's ( Mrs Jonathan Ross ) ''Tribute'' to the Harold and Maude car ...

I know what you mean, but little cutting the body and none of the chassis if you based it on a cabriolet all the body rigidly stays because of the roll over bar.

The whole reason I scrapped the SE5 is that it was just to narrow the XJs (sorted) would make a great grande router or eventer and look a lot better than the Lynx effort.

What started me down this road is some chap from the sixties used an XK150 with a hatch back to tow his race car looked fantastic

Mister Towed 6th December 2016 06:18

XK-8 convertible base as used by Mrs Woss above is clearly doable.

They're probably more easily available, reliable(?) and reasonably priced (for a sound car with MOT) than the old XJ-S these days. Lose the nasty 22" wires and Silver Cross side trims, glaze the rear side panels and you could achieve a pretty good V8 auto gentleman's shooting brake look on a budget.

Jaguartvr 6th December 2016 08:52

No chassis on an XJS so any cuts in theory would need an IVA inspection.
A half decent XJS convertible is 10K, would you really spend that sort of money to cut it about to make an estate car?
It's a bit like giving Liz Hurley to a cosmetic surgeon to make a Susan Boyle look-a-like, never mind, no accounting for taste!!

You have a point there! with the Liz Hurley reference no argument. However Toad (towed) has the right description "shooting brake" not "estate car".

It's like I live in a barn conversion but some people say bungalow

My thinking has been limited to a chassis car never though a monocoupe would be considered as the whole thing, back to the drawing board

Mister Towed 6th December 2016 15:50

Here you go, cheap(ish) donor with bad paint and a few glitches (on a Jag? surely not...)

On ebay for £4,250

I'm not sure I want the number plate, KISS COCK...I mean CUK.

Paul L 7th December 2016 05:28

Unfortunately, I think most Jaguar Shooting Brake conversions look fugly. :icon_sad:

Although my eyes haven't quite recovered from seeing this "not quite factory standard" Mark IX on Google images.

http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr268/3798j/Jag.jpg

Personally, I'd pick the XFR estate, albeit in BRG and with some traditional looking wheels to tone it down a bit.

Cheers, Paul. :)

WorldClassAccident 7th December 2016 12:44

Yopu could always base it on a 'vette Calloway style

http://www.callawaycars.com/homepage...wagen-package/

Barber 7th December 2016 12:51

Now THAT is like a shooting brake, rather than a hearse.

WorldClassAccident 7th December 2016 16:28

Should be quite easy to do too : The car would retain the Corvette targa top. AeroWagen bodywork replaces the original Corvette hatch utilizing the OEM seal, hinge and latch mechanisms

I wonder what other cars could be modified in this way?

Remove the old hatch and add the new body over the remaining hole...

zagmad 7th December 2016 18:04

Maybe something like a Toyota celica mk7. Got a hatch. ?

Jaguartvr 7th December 2016 19:16

Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo. Very cheap to buy and they don't tend to rust. 4WD and 4 wheel steering and a shape that already has a Ferrarish shape.

Awesome performance for vey little money.

zagmad 7th December 2016 19:43

Ferrari testarossa ? Like the 4x4 part.

WorldClassAccident 8th December 2016 09:26

I have always had a softspot for the last of the RX7s

Jaguartvr 8th December 2016 09:30

I think I prefer the Jag with the Moggy minor bolt on!

WorldClassAccident 8th December 2016 10:45

My photoshop (MS Paint) skill might need a little tweaking to make it look pretty :-)

aweesome cars... horrendously complicated electrnics and they are at "that age"... :S

What about a Supra?

fatbloke 8th December 2016 18:13

So what could you use as a base for one of these?

The one's that are left generally are pretty good. Main problems are hardening of valve stem oil seals, turbo's burning oil and gearbox synchro's going.
Ive had a lot of high performance cars over the years but the 3000GT (UK version of GTO but higher spec and bigger turbos) is something else, heavy car but once you wind it up:tape:

zagmad 10th December 2016 14:02

Not wanting to step on toes but has anyone tried using a rover p6 as a donor. The wings front and back come off and it has a v8 modor. Maybe a Ferrari coupe could be made or indeed a muscle car with slightly higher haunches at the back. Make it a 3 door etc

With a pretty expensive de-dion rear end I seem to remember

Jaguartvr 14th January 2017 14:07

Here's one for Chris
DB5

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAN-CONNE...oAAOSwjDZYeOE7

If you made it into a Volant I'm sure with a bit of jiggery pokery you could get it to sit on a standard Scimitar chassis.
A lot more practacle than an Auburn!

Hmm - Alarm bells here? Listed for a friend - yeah of course. On a shortened Scimitar chassis with V5 - so not of note because it will need an IVA.
Good try..:sorry:

Lucky@LeMans 14th January 2017 14:27

I think there will be little demand out there for the Auburn. Without a chassis to bolt it to the job is 10 fold more difficult to build. All very well saying it will simply "bolt on" to such and such chassis but it simply won't be that easy!

fatbloke 7th February 2017 19:34

I'd like one of these please - http://petrolicious.com/the-dino-pro...ng-up-for-sale

mazdarazmataz 7th February 2017 19:39

That's yummy, good taste fatbloke.

zagmad 7th February 2017 19:51

Its one of those cars you need to drop the suspension to the ground and put wide wheels on first then start the build. Quite an angular windscreen
