Got my V5 back this week we now have a tribute 250swb. 7 days from sending it not bad going.:icon_biggrin:

Jaguartvr 10th April 2017 07:01

What are you using for the locking catch itself as it sitting too low to use the normal bear claw?
I made a longer arm which worked well but didn't have any kind of spring to hold it closed. Was worried it might open on its own if I had forgotten to lock it.

andysharrock 10th April 2017 07:16

I used the Z3 latch setup off original car. the locking handle has a simple arm made up that triggers the latch

Jaguartvr 10th April 2017 07:18

Interesting, any pictures?

andysharrock 10th April 2017 07:36

Thats good news ...mine has just taken 3 months , but it was slightly different situation !

Did they retain BMW ?
I only ask as originally when we started the S*mmio's , they removed Triumph and replaced it with S*mmio , then they decided that Triumph had to stay and model details only can be changed .. so , it would be MAKE -S*mmio , MODEL - Spyder .... The guy I spoke to this time said thats how it has to be from now on , yet my V5 came back MAKE - Triumph S*mmio , MODEL - left blank !!

Have you sorted your boot issues , it looks to fit a bit better in these pics ?

Jaguartvr 10th April 2017 11:54

I had to build my boot lid up considerably on the drivers side on the curved section.

lancelot link 10th April 2017 16:23

I can't comment on the convertibles as I have not been involved with one , I have seen a few at Chris's workshop and the boots didn't jump out at me ..also I put a hardop together last year for a guy and the bootlid fitted really well , only becoming a poor fit when I cut the corner off and modified it , including moving the hinge etc !!

A minor discrepancy in hinge alignment or body placement can sometimes magnify a gap issue when it comes to final fit ..

I did state the make when filling out the forms bmw tribute swb, I dont know if that would have made any difference. just chuffed it came back so quick first time I did one was a pain in the back side.

only difference using the z3 catch is its triggered from the new boot handle rather than a bar pulling it on the z3. The latch needed to be moved back when I set the boot lid back still needs sanding off but all works again

Jaguartvr 10th April 2017 17:07

That looks like a much better solution.

andysharrock 10th April 2017 17:19

boot sorted

to be fair to Chris I will say that there is a lot that can make panels not line up it only takes one thing to be out 2mm when you bolting it up.

some before and after pics this is how much the boot lid stuck out only on the passenger side

Attachment 4284

Attachment 4286

I ended up taking about 10mm off in the end along the top hinge line the pencil line on the boot was only the first of two cuts.

this is down the passenger side

apologises the pics are not loading up as I see them on my lap top

we now have this good size gap all round the biggest problem was moving the lock in and getting it to line up again

more pencil lines to sand to

I changed the gaskets on the hinges they were made from like a card to rubber from an old inner tube. they come in handy when you need a rubber gasket I also filled the gap around the blots after refitting with body filler so it can not move again. this is how it now sits without a rubber seal I have it just not fitting it till after the paint

booked in for paint Monday but we are debating going away bank hol so very much yes or no to paint till we come back. He reckons 5 days to paint it said that the last time and it took two weeks.

need to decide on a paint colour it was Ferrari red but he says it will look like a tomato lol. building this to sell on so the colour needs to be right no second chances at 1300 quid a pop

Jaguartvr 22nd April 2017 10:52

I think if you are going to be selling it on that you need to rethink the door handles. Sorry but they look so wrong, would put me off buying it and it could badly dent your profits. Sorry.
I would also loose the horse box bolt on the bonnet, the old tried and tested bonnet slice doesn't take long.

I have a Mitsubishi GTO here that has been painted in
1998 Rosso Cursa 75250 which is an original Ferrari colour, nice proper Ferrari red but not to bright and blingy so it shouldn't end up looking like a tomato!
I think an original error colour probably helps the resale value.

lancelot link 22nd April 2017 10:55

I'd go for a darker red ..not the modern Ferrari red that is very bright ...Mars Red , Rosso ? but take it down a few shades ...if its for re-sale , the classier , darker red will be a better option , in my opinion ....something a bit nearer Jeff H's , or maybe somewhere in the middle .....just my opinion , mate , but I don't think the red roof will compliment an in your face red ..its more suited to a colour nearer itself ...

Paul L 11th June 2017 06:15

Andy – Did your car get painted?

andysharrock 11th June 2017 15:36

made me laugh when I saw the message pop up in my inbox,no mate its still sat on the drive . I did book it in but we went fishing for the week lol. been spending all my spare time on the hot rod I will make the effort to get it sort honest gov.

Paul L 12th June 2017 18:42

No worries Andy, I was just adding this build thread to the useful info sticky.

Does that mean there is an update on the Hot Rod coming?

It was really coming together last time.

Cheers, Paul. :)
