Deon: where is your VIN located on the chassis?

Hi everyone,

I've got a Deon in my garage which has to be registered in the Netherlands (currently on a UK reg). Now the V5 shows a nice VIN number, which is a prerequisite for registering in the first place, but the problem is I cannot find the physical VIN on the chassis.
Asking the Deon owners here: where is your VIN located on the chassis?

Many thanks,

Kai

Hi

There is no VIN plate as such but you should find a number stamped into the
chassis rail behind the engine where the boot lid hinges bolt up to. The number is normally stamped centre-ish between the boot hinge mountings.

Cheers Ian, sorry for the late reply, house build leaves no time for the dino, boohoo.

So, if I understand you correctly, it should be on the chassis rail in the following pic, between the red lines, right?

And not on the chassis rail in the pic:

Looks like the chassis is galvanized, I wonder if that covered up the VIN, although I cannot really imagine.

Ciao, Kai

Just get it stamped with the number or order a vin plate on eBay and stamp that up and fit

Unfortunately, a vin plate is not an option over here (Netherlands). The VIN must be stamped into the chassis, otherwise the RDW (Dutch DLVA equivalent) will not accept the car for registration.
Could have it stamped by the RDW though, if I do not find it. How's the VIN built up? Has it stars * as prefix and suffix or is it just the plain number?

Bottom picture chassis rail behind seat (you've marked in red) should be stamped on there facing engine.

Found it at last! It's indeed on the rail behind the driver's seat. However, the chassis appears to have been galvanized or hot zinc dipped AFTER stamping the VIN, leaving it almost indecipherable because of the zinc covering the characters. I will try to etch off the zinc layer with some hydrochloric acid or caustic soda, hopefully this will result in a more readable VIN.

Got it registered!!! :party::party::party:
One month before Brexit, after which it would become practically impossible to register. Took me three attempts in total:

1. Went to the RDW (Dutch equivalent to DLVA), when a injection lead broke for my Transit towing van, spilling diesel all over the road.
2. Next try: the RDW wanted to have full lighting, mirrors and catalysts mounted before registration. Besides, they needed an official declaration of engine specs.
3. Sailed through in the final attempt. They did not even look at the catalysts I struggled to integrate into the exhaust system (Cologne V6 needs two of them)! Had a good side too: they did not check the lighting E-marks, which was kinda lucky as the indicator lenses had none (as Dino NOS).

So now it's of into the garage until the house build has finished.

Ciao, Kai
