Cool! Looking good and lets see/hear more about it when you're able :)

Well done for getting it finished Nellie, looks like the paintwork could do with a bit of a polish though. :)

nellieb - I hope your are now cancer free.
I like your yellow chassis. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...6&d=1428315059 Quote:
There are very few Cordites at the stage you have reached, so well done. Good luck with the DLVA and more photos please. Take care, Paul. :) |
Welcome to the forum nellieb and it good see a new build on here, the chassis looks like it had a complete nut and bolt rebuild.
You mention you live in the highlands, i regularly holiday in Scotland with the family and there are plenty of excellent roads without the traffic plus beautiful scenery. Looking forward to your next installment. |
Hi, yes she is a complete rebuild. I have built a few kit cars over the years but always Ford based. The Triumph is an easy mechanical knowledge and as the parts are so easy to obtain it was a easy build. The body has been fun but does allow flexibility and a little creativity. I also built a little hot rod using Triumph Herrald donor parts which also was a joy to build. I dislike the regulations concerning the V S O, I built a roadster with a rover v8 a number of years ago and the regulations concerned destroyed the fun for me so the body change method is certainly for me! I was thinking of putting in a Mazda engine in the Cordite but then decided on keeping it all Triumph so as to keep it more original sounding and looking. I will post more pics in time only I am new at using the complex side of my computer. So glad that I have made contact on this forum, Regards, Neil.

You need to start an account with either Fliker or PhotoBucket, then paste the link into your thread.
If you find it hard there are plenty here who will be happy to show you, I struggled at first but once you know, it's easy enough. |
I'm getting help from my kind wife Cathy so should get some on here soon. Neil.
|
lets see the other stuff you have built Neil .

Hi. Sammio friends this is my Triumph Hot Rod Bobber ! She has a sweet little 1200 Herald engine and running gear. In the winter I put snow chains on her and speed around the garden in the snow! Neil.
|
A proper 'RatRod'
|
Nice Hot Rod.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...6&d=1428480054 Plus a nice view of your bonnet scoop in the background. Have you got your bonnet hinges working yet? Cheers, Paul. :) |
That is a nice 'rod. Those rear tyres are massive! What are they from?

wheres the fuel tank on the Rod Neil ?
Rear tyres look like a 6.70 x 13 or similar as used on old trailers and caravans etc. Tribute body too as well |

The tank is positioned on the rear and is the Herald tank. Below is a seat I made from mild steel a bit rough but very comfy and cost very little and made to fit the small space of the Sammio. Most of my budget went on the engine as it is race tuned and goes like stink and is Triumph which I was after! I run a Robin hood as well which is tremendous fun! Regards, Neil.
|
I like the Hot Rod a lot. And, your Cordite too. Congratulations and I hope that you stay healthy. I've been down for awhile with health issues as well. It's the pits.
|
Thanks for your praise! I was given six weeks to live and that was two years ago and still going strong! Before I was ill I ran a muscle car and a Marlin berlinetta and a motor bike and I sold them all thinking my time was numbered. I then realised my health was slowly improving and thought that a small easy car would suit me where little hassle getting parts and such. And so the Cordite was found on Gum tree as a non started project and the rest is history. I worked on the little racer every day for as much as I could in all weathers outside until a mate built me a workshop. I'm building the bulk head at present and awaiting the reg from DVLA which has been two months now ! My illness is advanced prostate cancer how about your self? Regards, Neil.

Hello Neil, I've built a number of cars over the years. 1 from a kit, the others scratch built. It's my passion and therapy.
Years ago I was hit by a car that was stuck on full throttle and driven into 3 cars with me in between. I suffered serious leg injuries, shoulder injuries, and a head injury. The head injury has caused memory issues and some other problems. I've had 5 surgeries to walk. Last year I had a full knee and shoulder replacement surgery scheduled. But, I had a sudden, complete blockage of the main artery to the heart. The heart attack almost did me in. It was my second one within months. I was lucky that I was close to a hospital and was able to be saved. I'm a severe insulin dependent diabetic. I'm facing the loss of my feet, heart surgery, and the original knee and shoulder surgery, and oral surgery too! Ok, now I'm depressed. :( Actually, I'm trying to stay optimistic. I've been selling off all of my projects and tools and getting my things organized for my wife and kids. I went to my shop yesterday to do some work on my Cobra but had to quit as I was experiencing chest pains. I'm glad that you are feeling better and it's great that you are able to work some on your cars. Good luck to you. John |
Hi John, how are you at present? Just had treatment yesterday and feel really rough at present. Let me know how your doing if you can manage it ? Neil.
|
Hello Neil, I'm sorry that your feeling so bad. Hang in there.
I'm in the USA so it's very early here. Normally i would be sleeping but I woke up with a medical problem. I heard the inbox "ding" and saw your message. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you for your PM. I will PM you later today. I'm going to try and get some sleep. I hope that you get feeling better quickly. John |
Neil & John - Hope you both make full recoveries.
As car building problems don't really compare with serious health issues. Take care, Paul. :) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1428740233 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...2&d=1428740233 |
Hi all, I'm still kicking! Log book came back yesterday with the new name Triumph Cordite! A huge stepping stone as I now know that the car is legal and so this incentive is pushing me to finalise the build! I will add pics soon when my wife returns from work! Some one needs to keep me fed and to buy bits for the Cordite!

And here is the most recent picture...
|
You look like you've nearly finished... Have you changed the front wings much?
|
Neil - Congratulations on the successful V5C change.
Your car certainly looks a lot closer to being finished than mine. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...6&d=1434125945 Good luck, Paul. :) |
Hi Paul,Yes I have lowered the wheel gaps considerably as they at first looked out of balance with the rear! The rear I will work on as time goes on. The project has been enormous as we who took on the Cordite project well know it never seems to end! But I will complete it eventually! I'm filling in the bulkhead with galvanised steel taken from an old washing machine, I have most of the money spent on the engine as it is balanced and tuned to the max I just cannot wait to give the Cordite a blast down the road! Maybe not far off! I'll send more pics soon? Cheers Paul I'm enjoying your build enormosly keep plugging away!

Neil - Can you talk me through, or provide more photos for, your passenger side mirror mounting?
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...1&d=1434181001 As I've been mocking up a pedestal for mine, to hold the mirror in a similar position to yours. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w...o/DSCF4313.JPG Also, if you didn't mind, I'd like to see how you hinged your bonnet too. Cheers, Paul. :) |
Hi Paul, sure! Just give me a little time to get the photo's on! I'm still learning this new technology! Glad you like some of my variations!

Hi paul , I hope these help? Neil.
|
Neil - Thanks for the extra photos.
Your mirror bracket has all the hall marks of a pit line fix during a race and that is a good thing. Cheers, Paul. :) |

Hi All! I took the Cordite for a test a while ago now! The examiner was afraid of putting my Cordite through a test as he said the body was not safely attached to the chassis! So I returned home and worked on the problem with my solution! I have now built a tube frame around the body and firmly attached the body and chassis as asked ! I have also extended the tube to make a substantial roll configuration, which helps me to get in and out and also makes me feel safer! Also I always wanted a race look more than a show car and added piano hinges on the doors when needed ! Still a few more jobs to do but at least I know now that it is ultra safe and it will pass a test when needed!
|
Neil - I still can't believe the way your MOT guy behaved.
After all, the original Spitfire body shell is only held on to the chassis by a few bolts. Looking at the photo... http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...3&d=1443097710 Does the rear of the car flip up too now? Also, I see you have change the bonnet profile a little near the catch, was there a reason for that? ( As I still need to finalised how I will be doing this on my own car. ) Anyway, it is nice to see an update from you. Good luck, Paul. :) |
Hi Paul, yes the rear flips off! As I have built a extra tube subframe around the wings so it is strong! No reason for the bonnet changes just want to be different ! As usual! Also fitted a servo as my right leg is weak! Shame the rubbish summer is over but I can play with the car until then!

Hi, after my refusal by the MOT man at my local garage this is my reaction! The result being roll cage and rear subframe all for added strength! I will go to another garage in the new year and will it pass? Happy Xmas to every one. :hail:
|
I like the way you have built in support for the rear wings.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...5&d=1450728316 Good luck, Paul. :) |
