My Vitesse bonnet went for £311 on ebay and the main body tub fetched £200 before I'd even listed it when someone who'd seen my other parts for sale contacted me and asked if I had one. Good luck selling your unwanted bits it's all part of the fun of Sammio building.

Body off at last

At last ! ... the body tub is now off & listed on Gumtree. Surprisingly good nick for a 46 year old !! ... and so is the chassis now I can have a good look at it. I feel I am getting somewhere. My aim is to give it the pressure hose treatment (what I have will cut you if you are not very carefull). Just bought some good rust remover gel and some Waxoyl for when it's dried out.
So far the suspension bolts etc have yeilded to a big spanner .... no need for heat or big hammers (yet). Glad I paid a good wedge for the donor ... this seems to have paid off (so far) I've recouped at least half of my original outlay in selling off the spares.
Watch this space ... (but please don't hold your breath ... I would hate to be responsible for untimely death) ....

Rear hubs ...Steering Rack for Ford Ka ! ....HELP..

Seems ages since I've had the time to get on with the Sammio. Part of the problem was my daughter in law's Ford Ka !! apparently a built in problem .. the steering rack leaks like a sieve and needed replacing. Dad knows about cars .... why not ask him to do it !!. Yes well ... a bit modern for my liking and replacing the steering rack is a job I would not thrust onto my worst enemy. All done now and getting back to proper cars. Chassis getting painted with a few coats of Hammerite and "starting" to put a few bits back together.
I've decided to replace the rear wheel bearings whilst the thing is in pieces but hit a BIG snag with getting the hubs off. All the research says that this is virtually impossible without a CHURCHILL Hub Puller ... and I tend to believe it. Any of you guys/gals attempted the job? Anyone got a puller I could borrow/hire/ buy a beer for? I live in the Haslemere GU27 area.
Promise some more pictures WHEN I have something positive to show you.
Cheers

I have a puller that you can borrow, but I am in Oxford and it will cost a bit to post as it is bl**dy heavy. I do get to Farnborough reasonably frequently if that helps. PM me if you want to try and sort something.

Hi Oxford
Great news, Farnborough is only 1/2 hours drive from me & i work in Farnham which is even nearer. If you are able to let me know some dates we can perhaps tie up.
Alternatively, we drive up to Nottingham to see our grandkids every other month ... could quite easily make a detour via Oxford. Next time will be Thursday 22nd August ... mid to late evening.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for the offer

Hub Puller#2

Hi Tirtone
Wow .... another offer .. thanks.
I've got a work colleague who visits Poole on a fairly regular basis. He's down there for a week starting 9th August ... leaving the following Sunday (18th). Does this fit in fairly well with you?
If you can give me a contact number I can chat it over.
Oxford: no doubt we can chat as well .... I obviously don't want to put either of you out too much.
Thanks for all your support guys.

Tony
Nice to chat the other day. I've passed your details to my mate Mark. He will be down in Poole this week-end (from 9th Aug) and will no doubt contact you.
Thanks again for the loan .... definitely a beer in this for you. I'll get it back to your brother's when I've finished with it. When you come up to see him, give me a call, perhaps we could meet up for a beer ... I'm only a few miles away.
Rgds

Chassis update

2 Attachment(s)
Nearly ready to start building up the rear end. (I hope I've attached the photos correctly).
Got a new set of bolts & bushes and rear diff should go in soon.
Rather pleased with the chassis as I've not had to do any welding .. the car was properly undersealed soon after manufacture.
More photos to follow as I build up. It realy seems like I'm getting somewhere but it's taken a year to get this far ...

Hi there,

It seems ages ago when I could start building up the chassis. I was nice work. Learned a few things about Triumph and the differences there are. It all looks pretty much the same, but it isn't :-)
There are different flanges, 2 lengths of drive shaft, different sizes of profshaft, 2 sizes of brake drums, the fromt hubs, verticals and braking system, 2 thicknesses for the stabalisation bar, you get a swing spring and suddenly your rear braklines won't fit, etc, etc. No problem if you use the parts from your donor offcourse.

Much better Bart. What's next?

Good news and ................

Good news is my Morris 1000 passed the MOT on friday. Just a couple of minor points regarding dust covers on swivel joints. Another little job which will interupt the Sammio build, but at least it will keep my off street corners.
Next job: Tony has kindly loaned me his hub puller ... (cheers Tony).. just need to visit one of my local mates with a BIG vice to hold everything steady. Once the rear bearings have been replaced I can get on and build up the rear. Then I will have some proper photos to show.
Not going to be able to do much for the next week or so as we are off to Nottingham to visit our grandkids.

Rear Wheel Hubs at LAST out

Whey hey ...!!!
Rear hubs out at last. Boy do they make a "crack" !!
Yep, a BIG piece of scaffold pole .... wind it up ... and eventually .. they crack.
Pictures to follow .... promise; as I build up the rear end. I'm sooooooo pleased, Thanks Tony; I'll get the puller back to your brother's soon ... p'raps we can meet up for a beer
Keep the faith ..
