Geoff's 250 SWB Replica Build

Lets start of by saying my build is quite some time off , but as soon as you see something on Ebay that you just know is perfect then it wouldn`t be right not to purchase . So after spending time on Ebay/Italy and Ebay/Germany which have a greater choice of Carello and Marchal lights , i have bought the following ,

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Leuchtkappen-...item460444fad9

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1210496824...84.m1439.l2649

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2908409269...84.m1438.l2649

As per WCA`s build i will be using a Z3 probably the 6 cylinder version , Geoff .

garyh 29th April 2013 13:01

Nice detailing, Geoff. Do the lenses have a surround?

casamolino 29th April 2013 13:51

Thanks Gary , if you buy them with the correct surrounds/bulb holder the cost goes up by a factor of 3! so i intend to buy (probaly Lucas type) and fit my units to them , Geoff .

WorldClassAccident 29th April 2013 15:43

You have got to go for the 6 cylinder, the 1.9 four pot is a hateful engine. Every Z3 other than the 1.9 has a straight 6 from memory and the 2.8 or 3.0 are the pick of the bunch.

I will be posting up some pictures of mine soon along with some rubbish attempts at showing what I hope to do. The Z3 is a great base car in terms of easy of stripping down.

What shell are you hoping to put on top?

casamolino 19th May 2013 07:09

Buongoirno from Sunny Italy , arrived yesterday after driving the Alfa down 1300m from Chester and a week in Rimini , Geoff .

WorldClassAccident 19th May 2013 07:20

Not even a little bit jealous

Hammy 20th May 2013 13:40

Geoff do you have any pics or mock ups of what your kit will look like on the Z3?

Hammy how close to this do you think Chris could get? are you up for one! Geoff .

Hammy 30th May 2013 09:56

Looks very cool mate, what is the car? (Not the Z3 obviously) :surprised:

soporsche 30th May 2013 10:28

Looks very cool... and not too distant from the mx250 moulds in places. that curved rear window might be challenging.
Modifying an existing mould/shape would be definitely easier than a 'from scratch' body.

The challenge (Im looking at an alternative body at the moment) is modelling the car/panels unless a investment is made in a foam/clay model which is expensive. The alternative and done many times before is to 'borrow' a car to take the moulds from, this can obviously be tricky if the car is a £xMillion rarity.
In talking to Chris who obviously knows much much more than me (and other bespoke builders), its generally an easier proposition with 'something' tangible to model from.
Im sure though that Chris might offer a solution with a little ingenuity :-)

250 SWB , more picturers on this website!http://www.foskers.com/ferrari-sales...wb-re-creation

soporsche 30th May 2013 11:25

Very nice indeed, I reckon a test drive... have Chris ready with fibreglass and plastic to protect. Quick mould then drive back without them noticing its a bit dusty :icon_idea:
i think that it would be possible to mod an existing kit/mould we all know and love to reflect this lovely car.

WorldClassAccident 30th May 2013 11:27

To be honest, it is only £295,000 so why not just buy that one?

;-)

casamolino 30th May 2013 13:09

If only IT contracting was that lucrative! Geoff .

Hammy 30th May 2013 13:23

I like it a bit but its not my cup of tea, I preferred your mazza concept. Shoot me down but its a bit too run of the mill for me (ONLY MY OPINION GUYS :hand:)

WorldClassAccident 30th May 2013 13:42

I preferred my Masser concept too - if you make it down on the 29th it should be sitting in Chris's workshop waiting for me!!

Wheels

I was the proud owner of a set of wire wheels of a MK2 E type Jag sorted out adaptors from Orson ( really helpful company ) but decided the track would be to wide for the look i am going for , so moved on to plan b , sold them and know buying a set of genuine Minilites to be fitted with 185/65/15 tyres , Geoff .

fatbloke 22nd July 2013 19:24

Do you still have the adapters Geoff? Looking for a set for my Jag wheels.

casamolino 23rd July 2013 13:10

I stopped the order before production , so sorry no , Geoff .

casamolino 3rd August 2013 09:20

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...9/DSCF0715.jpg Right thats the wheels and tyres fitted , just need that nice man from Tribute to make some space in the workshop:wave: Geoff .

WorldClassAccident 3rd August 2013 10:44

casamolino 4th August 2013 07:55

WorldClassAccident 4th August 2013 13:08

Hi Geoff

I like your wheel choice :thumb:

Nick's car is being stripped down later this week, so your project will start a few weeks after that.

I have a cunning plan to create a very good likeness of the SWB......:tape:

Talk to you soon.

y cymro 4th August 2013 21:18

Minilite's will look great.
How much further out would wires be?

Afternoon the wires would have been at least 1 inch possibly a inch and a half further out each side at the front , never did try at the back but guess approx the same , the wires would be the better looking option but would be difficult because the Z3 hubs are positioned so far out , thanks for the comment re the Minilites , which i last used back in the 70s on MK1 and MK2 Escorts , Geoff .

y cymro 5th August 2013 13:58

No, unfortunately it saw it's demise against a tree in Carmarthshire one Saturday night ;-)
If only we'd have kept all that old stuff eh!
