Sure I recognise that wall! Somewhere Wimborne way?

Looks ready for LMC...

redratbike 17th October 2017 09:59

Is that an entrance to a huge walled estate or have I got mixed up with elsewhere??

Its called Spye Park which is in Lacock Wiltshire, its a natural trust village also there is Lacock Abbey which houses the Fox Talbot museum, a lot of Harry Potter filming was done there as well as Poldark

lancelot link 17th October 2017 12:17

SMASH..You are thinking of Drax Estate , between Wimborne and Bere Regis ...you would go past it on your way to Tribute from out of town ...Has stone Stags on the top of the gate pillars ...

smash 17th October 2017 15:28

That's it - yes the stag. The ex's dad lived in Wimborne for a few years so went past a few times

davecymru 3rd November 2017 23:40

Ive not been around for a while, but this is a cracking looking car!

I dont suppose youre planning on taking her up to tje end of year "classic car and restotation show" at the Bath and West this weekend? If so it would be good to see her in the flesh. And perhaps grab a photo next to its cousin (the Miglia) :)

lancelot link 4th November 2017 07:02

Thank you D. I am so pleased with it ....

And yes , Alex will be at the Bath and West Show today ...I was hoping to get down there to meet him and see the car again too ...but Eric my customer for the Long nose is coming in to see me this morning and I can't re-schedule it as he's on a fairly tight timetable ...

Please do take some pictures . It would be really useful to see the size differences of the 2 cars next to each other .....

Alex 4th November 2017 16:14

Really good time today at the Classic restoration show at Shepton Mallet, got rather wet on the way down and stuck behind a tractor and trailer full of hay bails and got covered in straw so not the best start to the day. Loads of interest in the car and have been asked to go back tomorrow for a couple of photo shoots for 2 magazines so well chuffed and had to give it a good clean when I got home so fingers crossed for better weather tomorrow.
Certainly a diverse range of cars on show and great to see them all

lancelot link 4th November 2017 17:15

THATS GREAT NEWS ALEX ...May I ask which magazines ?

Alex 4th November 2017 18:51

Hi Gary. one guy was Adan from the kit car magazine who you have spoken to and the other was for a specialist Triumph magazine

lancelot link 4th November 2017 19:08

Oh ok ..Adam ..yes , glad he got hold of you ..saves them a bit of messing about doing the pics at the show ...he was talking about getting the feature out for the Christmas copy ... The Specialist Triumph magazine ..is that the guy who does a Triumph Specials and kit car newsletter ? He asked me for some info a few weeks back ...

Really pleased its creating interest ...

Graham , take some pictures of them taking pictures if you can please ? I'd love some of those for the Facebook page ...

Another great day at Shepton Mallet today. Met up with Dave in his Miglia and parked next to each other so a good photo opportunity and also I was lucky enough to have a photo shoot done by Complete Kit Car for their December magazine issue

Alex - Your car looks great.

And no traces of the hay you picked up yesterday. :icon_wink:

I've also rotated the photos of your car and Dave's Miglia.

Great pictures ...Thank you ...Top picture really shows the pout well , one of my favourite features of the car ...headlight covers in place too , which they aren't in many pictures ...

The 2 of the 'half-brothers' together shows the extra width and length well ..width is about 4'' and puts the wheels inside the arches , more Jag like , rather than the Miglia's wider track look ....The rounder rump and pouted front add a few inches to the overall length too ...not saying either is right or wrong - just two different ways of building the cars ...

molleur 5th November 2017 17:59

They both look great!
Really like Alex's red color. What is it?

It's ROSSA BARCHETTA ..The same colour that Jeff at Hilltop painted his 250 SWB ...I think I'd be right in saying its a standard colour for those cars ...it looks all diferent shades on here , but is a stunning colour in the flesh ...

molleur 5th November 2017 19:13

Thanks LL, seems Jeff's build photos disappeared. Didn't he do a rear window mod?

Oh ..have they ? Maybe a photobucket issue ?

Yes he did ...I did one on a 250 SWB as well , to fit a stock sized rear screen bought from GTO Engineering ...

molleur 5th November 2017 19:29

That's my guess. There are only two photos of Jeff's finished car on this site now. Looking for modifications to window/doors, etc.
Once upon a time it was all here.

Thinking is bad! May get a Tribute 250SWB coupe kit sent across the pond to do a bespoke chassis, may as well do it all! Think Karmann Ghia windscreen, very close to the real deal. Major mods not intimidating.

How true, after thinking I could mix and match some panels, it advanced to wondering if I could be a lot more adventurous and get Chris to do it. Bingo!

Jaguartvr 6th November 2017 08:14

Jeff & Lancelot's rear window modifications took the look of the coupes to a new level. When you consider the cost of the donor, kit and time, I would think it madness not to do the rear window modification.

Totally agree with the rear window mod. I can fab a sheet metal pattern for Lexan easily. Also have a friend with a big oven to form it.

No worries, I've been playing with computers and forums for a lot longer than I've been building cars. :icon_wink:

Molleur - Two things:
Link to Gary’s SWB build with rear window and lots of other nice mods here:
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=6003

It would appear Jeff has deleted his build thread following his post about copyright laws here.
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...f=30&t=1680653

Gary – Apologies for the thread hijack.

To make up for it, I flagged your original Formosa thread to JG so he can move it into this section.

Looks like all your hard work on this kit is starting to pay off.

Good luck, Paul. :)

I have spent the last few weekends addressing the interior of the car, I have lined the bulkhead with thin striped rubber matting also the footwells, gearbox housing and the bottom runners each side of the seats, also put some on the top of the tunnel with some angled aluminum strips with double rubber inserts. I have also added some nets to the door interiors plus added some small patches of rubber next to the nets in between the tubular framework which to me shows the framework better than the flowcoat red. I have also lined the boot space. I am very pleased with the outcome

The final picture shows a drawing of the car a mate of mine did from a few photos I sent him of the car in my garage , the attention of detail is really good so if any one would like a drawing of your car let me know and I can give you his details , its £50 per drawing either colour or black & white including the frame

A couple more little touches, put some chrome trim around the perspex headlight dishes and also along the top of the windscreen ( not easy to see in the photo) it certainly adds to the overall look of the car

kevemm 16th February 2018 17:39

That looks excellent do you mind me asking how did you manage to do that around the headlights?

lancelot link 16th February 2018 18:27

Very nice Graham ...the colour shows well in that picture too ..looks too red in many pics ...

Its a bit fiddly but the edge strip is supple enough to follow the contours, I started by threading some cable through the strip first then as you go round the cover you pull out the cable as you go which opens up the gap so its easy to push onto the edge, E Bay edging strip I bought link below
