Maybe not plum, but, funnily enough, Triumph Damson Red is on my shortlist -

Although I'm 99% set on silver, when I come to purchase a donor, if a perfect candidate pops up and happens to be red then, surprisingly perhaps, I'll be spraying the 250 Damson Red.

I rather like the idea of the steels - Maybe dark blue body with old english white stripe and same white for the wheels?

Steel wheels sound like a potentially good retro idea without forking out for wires.
Are there any decent steelies out there with the correct bolt pattern/offset that might look the part?

BMW do plenty of steels, I'm using 17" but 15" & 16" are available.
The bolt on wires used a Jaguar 4.75" pcd which is 120.6mm pcd (BMW is 120mm) and Jaguar is the same as Chevrolet so all sorts of wheels for American cars and hot rods then become an option, subject to offset.

Bob.

On the steel wheel front this might whet your appetite.
BMW steelies with spinners....

or black...

hurnleft 4th March 2015 11:11

I like that. It's the sort of effect I'm after as I'll be using spinners as well.
Thanks for the black version, that's my plan A.

Bob.

Very Andy 4th March 2015 11:23

Just added a black version too.

Would definitely reduce build costs as well. Could add banded steelies to the back to fill the arches if need be.

Mister Towed 4th March 2015 11:23

That's pretty much the look I'll be aiming for, but 15" with high profile rubber. Not sure whether I'll go with silver or white for the wheels on a silver car, I've been toying with the idea of painting my Spyder's wires white for a while.

I take it the image of the SWB on (17"?) steels is photoshopped? If so, can you do versions with silver and white instead of red rims please?

Scottie22 4th March 2015 11:32

Mmm, in silver they'd look a bit Dun-loppy which would not be a bad thing.

Very Andy 4th March 2015 12:01

Silver, using newer beemer alloys

white

Very Andy 4th March 2015 12:07

The top alloys are taken from a 2002 bmw but probably only came in 13 inch the bottom set are from a much newer bmw and would come in 15 to 17 or 18 inch. Think you would need to source an very old 7 series or something to get bigger old style steels.

I actually prefer the newer ones and they could be banded easily.

Mister Towed 4th March 2015 17:34

Ooh, both those looks work for me. :)

Thanks for doing that VA, I've never tried photoshop myself, must really have a go.

When you say2002 BMW, do you mean the year or the model (as in 2002tii)?

Scottie22 4th March 2015 17:46

I knew you would like them Mr T!
Banded, they would look superb.

Perhaps a bit extreme but banded steels do look good.

Bob.

Mister Towed 4th March 2015 18:48

What makes you think they've been banded?

Ok, ok, only joking. :)

Scottie22 4th March 2015 20:18

Perhaps they haven't, the car could be sitting on 4 old oil drums....

y cymro 4th March 2015 20:26

I like banded wheels, but that wheel design doesn't look in period for an SWB.

Scottie22 4th March 2015 20:29

Like most things in life, its all down to personal taste, but for me, all wheels have to be silver.

y cymro 4th March 2015 20:54

If you're going for a modern look these are interesting
