Insurance

Hi , I was looking forward to coming out of lockdown and putting my Tribute mx 250 GTO back on the road. I have just come off the phone to Footman James and they quoted me £175 fully comp 3000 mile limit, last year in November my renewal quote was £139 but did not renew because of lockdown and not taking it out in the winter. It seems quite an increase in just a few months, unless it’s because of my age I am only 66 years young, just wondering what you guys are paying and who you are with.
Regards Andy.

I'm with A-plan on the Quantum and Rickman, they seem ok (who knows until making a claim?) . Last year mine was June renewal, and I considered i may leave it a month pending news of Stoneleigh reschedule, but the 'adviser' suggested it would go up if I left it a couple of months instead of renewing. I'm not sure I was given good advice there (I'll have words before renewal this year0 as it's a nett policy that doesn't generate NCB, so shouldn't matter. I've so far paid for a year's insurance and done zero miles. £153

If you want to save a few quid play one off against the other. They all want your business and there are several insurers who specialise in kits and specials. Make sure you are clear with what sort of policy you want and remember to tell them you are in club, if you built it yourself, minimum mileage you are happy with and that it is a second car. All factors to bring the quote down.

£150 to £160 with A-Plan is my experience. That is not with an agreed value however.

They've told me (on 2 separate occasions) that there is no additional charge to arrange agreed value - just send them photos etc). All I have to do is paint the Quantum before doing the photos!

Hi guys, thanks for your suggestions, I requested a call back on Adrian Flux website, which saved me hanging on the phone for about half an hour for some one to answer. After a bit of bartering managed to get it down, more than £45
Cheaper than Footman James.
Thanks again regards Andy.

Sod’s law. Just tried starting my car and the battery is knackered ,money I saved on insurance will pay for the new battery.

That's not always the case . When I built the aluminium 250 TR I managed to get an agreed value of £50k and the premium was under £200 ! The Tribute 275 was more expensive to insure despite the agreed value of just £25k.

They told me there was no additional charge if I then added the agreed value (after painting the car) - maybe they overcharged in the first place :eusa_shifty:
Flux was charging an extra £30 IIRC when I was with them, for me to take 6 photos and send them through the wire to agree the fixed value each year. The insurance company involved was the same for both brokers
