Adieu.....

The Monaco will be going to France, where many of its brethren already reside. The vendor is happy with this result.

I can't say I'm enamoured with the grille.........

The Mating Season

Yesterday, at long last, good weather coincided with the availability of help. A 17 point turn was once again needed to get the chassis back in front of the body. Without a steering column and wheel this is hard work for a coffin dodger!

Hopefully, this is the final mating of body and chassis :).

I dug out the container of mounting fixings and bolted it down with a smear of copper grease on the threads. All these fixings are A2 stainless so any future dismantling should be hassle free.

Today I'll build the pedal box and master cylinders back in and have a game with my pipe flaring kit.

Regards, Mick

Well done, Mick, it is indeed a great feeling when you get the body on for the final time. :eusa_clap:

Now what Mick? I for one will miss your reports. Don't be long.

With advancing years, I'm not sure that I've got another build in me. The only one that I'd definitely go for would be a Sherpley, but so few were made (I think I've heard 12?) that the likelihood of a part completed project coming up is remote, but never say never!

Thanks for kind comment regarding my posts, given the many hiccups along the way so far, I'm sure there'll be a good few more to report on before the thread morphs into 'on the road'.

Regards, Mick

Never say never! I'm 75 and still feeling the madness.

redratbike 6th October 2019 16:47

Sure someone turned up recently somewhere with the sherpley moulds

Dpaz 6th October 2019 17:45

At 74 I'm close behind, but, I've got enough toys to play with. A series 1 Landrover with a dodgy gearbox and a Marlin roadster needing refreshing. 'You don't stop playing with toys when you grow old, you grow old because you stopped playing with toys'! But I have noticed some things have got a lot heavier in the last 30 yrs.

I'll vouch for that!

This Sherpley was unsold on eBay and the item said it came with the moulds....

You could easily create your own Bentley lookalike. There are lots of options if you use a commercial vehicle rolling chassis. Probably not many old Sherpa's about which had the leaf spring front axle but still lots of other potential donors. You don't need much in the way of pre moulded parts, at least half the car is flat panels. The main body tub could be made from plywood and clad with leather.

There’s a Sherpa chassis on retrorides for sale

That passed me by, as I only search under kit car each day. It's hideous and would require a complete rebuild: right up my street!

At a mere 71 I'm somewhat humbled by the above posts from my seniors. I shall try to man up.

It's more than a madness, it's a sickness!
Been playing with car builds since the early 1960's.
Can't stop!

Dpaz 12th October 2019 21:29

Molleur, Why would you want to stop? You'd have nothing to live for, doing stupid(?) things is what makes life worthwhile. Growing old is inevitable growing up is optional.

molleur 12th October 2019 21:34

Never said that I wanted to stop. Looking ahead to a possible
Morgan F2 replica from scratch. I can get a Kent engine and 4 spd gearbox locally.
Build the front suspension and use a shaft driven motorcycle rear.

I'll give her a go in alloy too!

Dpaz 12th October 2019 21:40

Hi Mick, There is a Kit car business for sale in St Helens only £10k.

Ditto Mick. My Dad brought in a Morgan 4-4 in crates around 1953 and I
assisted with the assembly. He also raced the second Healey 100 ever brought
into the USA.

Lucky@LeMans 13th October 2019 17:37

I blame Blue Peter with John, Pete and Val ! Working with card board and sticky back plastic still comes in useful on a kit car build !
