MX250-my build questions
Hello,
i have spent some time on the kit those last days. When playing with the headlights bowls, i noticed that they don't fit directly ( MK1) So , what is the best way to handle this. Cutting the edges ( like with the impact bar) could make the front end weak ? http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/3mx5.jpg Should i then make some reinforcement plates ? Any picture welcome. Gerardo |
Hi Gerado i think most people cut a section out of the plastic bowl to fit

Hello Ned,
i cut the bowl today, and they fit. but , i 'll have to cut the edge of the front chassis to allow the headlamp to fit. Gerardo |
Hello, i have changed the titel of this post.
This way, i 'll post all my question here. So here we go : I think i soon will be able to glue the rear part of the kit. I noticed that kit is very flexible ( for example when you push on the fuel lid to open) So , is it ok to inject some expansive foam to fill the gap between the kit and the original body of the car ? Gerardo |
Make sure you seal it well if you do. I filled the arch gaps in mine and then fibre glassed them in but the foam will hold water if it gets in and give you rust on any metal. I ended up having to dig it all back out again.

There are two types of foam. The Fire Rated foam is closed cell, in other words it will not absorb water. Use this one.(mousse coupe-feu in your local diy store)
Do not use the normal type as above as it will hold water, as fatbloke experienced. |
Hi, what solution do you find to make the headlights fit? Facing the same problem myself

Hello,
First, i tried cutting the plastic bowl. i could fit it properly, but the bulb would not fit ( touching the chassis) So i finished cutting the chassis ( as marked on my first picture) and now i can buy a new palstic bowl to replace the one i cutted ;-( i will post a picture tomorrow Gerardo |
Hello,
here is a picture. http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/phare.jpg i took a big part out. i will now weld some reinforcment palte around the cut Gerardo |
Thanks belgianb, I did mine today, I took some out from the middle but left the bottom and top joined, and it seems to have done the trick
