Just another Sammio Spyder

I have now some workshop space so I have decided to start on one of the many "awaiting" projects.
Some of you will remember this different build approach

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psxk5edy0f.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...pslcbl8lcq.jpg

Right now the first thing needed is to build a steel cage frame utilizing the "A" and "B" posts of the original Herald.
The remains of the original body will help line the whole thing up and the steel will add strength. In theory it should be a lot stronger than the original Sammio style cage frames.

This is a new approach so it will be interesting to so how it "flows".

I also have a few new ideas regarding the way the dash is made up :gossip:

Spent the day building the cage frame and fitting the fuel tank.

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psgsue4kra.jpg

Used as much of the original body as possible. It has ended up a very strong frame, much stronger than the original and as both the original "A" and "B" post were used the lining up was simple.

The best find of the day is my "boot" it's the old boot liner from the Scimitar SS1,cut in half and laid on it's side.
Fit a treat

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psbciuy2kr.jpg

I placed the body back over the cage frame so I can make the body supports tomorrow
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psxvqrp8z5.jpg

All coming a long nicely but when I got finally got the car on the ramp I found the front floor pans are in a bad way and the chassis has had some crude repairs over the years :doubt:

that boot section looks perfect. I need to see how you support actual body.

Here's the supports in place.
The original Sammio cage frame only supported the body tub in a few places but as this is a "one-off" it's been custom fitted.
IMHO the body needs support at the very rear, half way up the main boot/body area, the rear of the cockpit and the cockpit sides.
This is how I have done it.

The flat bar is shaped to fit the body and the two will be stuck together with mastic. The body tub sides will be fiberglass along the "A" post, "B" post and the inner sills. The spaces this created will make handy side pockets (stole that idea from RATTLER).

Micky1Mo – You are certainly doing your bit to get a range of alternative Sammios on the road.

Good luck with this one, Paul. :)

Paul, I'm just making space and using what I have in the workshop.
This is being built for profit rather than prestige. It should be on the road by the end of the month making more money and space ready for the A1 Alpha :icon_rolleyes:

I keep seeing full dashboards (complete with clocks and switches) for sale on e-bay and had an idea.

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psdo1ek08s.jpg

It's a full MGB dash complete with clove box and a hole for a radio
I think it will save a lot of work and looks pretty good :peace:

Also found this dash.

I've got numerous Dolomite dashboards and 'all systems go' gauges if anyone is looking.

Due to lack of time, workshop space this will soon be on E-Bay.

If anyone's interested please PM me.

micky1mo 10th November 2015 18:03

Now listed on E-Bay.

micky1mo 24th November 2015 13:46

Now sold to a guy from Spalding, Lincolnshire.
He's say he will keep this listing up-dated on the cars progress :pop2:

phil9 24th November 2015 16:24

not to far from me, barry ,and towed......

micky1mo 24th November 2015 19:03

That's good to know as he'll get all the help he needs.

Mister Towed 24th November 2015 19:15

Yep, always looking for an excuse to take my Spyder for a blast. I also remember the boost it gave me during my build when Phil used to drop by in his finished 'old number 2' for a cuppa and a chat. Things always seemed to go so much smoother afterwards.

Paul L 25th November 2015 18:49

I hope the new owner does keep the build thread going, as this was another interesting approach to Sammio building.

I am sure the added bonus of the three amigos being near by will be a big help too.
