Fuel Filler Cap
Any suggestions on where to get one from? Carbuilder Solutions have a variety, but seem very expensive.
I like the look of an Aston or Monza cap, but I bet they're not IVA friendly. That and they cost an arm an a leg. I also need to tether the cap, so that's a consideration. I think it needs to be shiney as well. To match all the other chrome / polished bling. :D |
Can't remember where mine came from - but I think there is a thread on this forum about Fuel Caps. It's made by Mocal and is the same as most everybody seems to have used. It not that "shiny" though being made out of aluminum and anodized. It has to be flush with the surface to pass the SVA - I guess the IVA is the same - so this rules out Monza style caps.

I got mine from car builder solutions but it was quite pricey.
http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/94mm-lock...o3s-3672-p.asp Don't forget the unleaded insert! I found a way to tether it which was considerably cheaper :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/33105452@N05/3556754326/ Tim |
Tim - that's a neat tether solution.
Did you have to do anything to the cap to put that nyloc on that the tether is fixed to? or is there already a stud that is you can use already? |
One thing worth mentioning in connection with the fuel filler. Marlin handily mark the centre for the hole in the rear tub with a dimple. The only problem is that it is in the wrong place! I guess it must be for a different version of the fuel tank than they use now. So make sure you measure carefully and don't end up with a 2" hole in the wrong place (I almost did....)

I got mine from Burton's as they were the cheapest at the time I ordered.
https://www.burtonpower.com/product_.../UserHome.aspx I think you now now need to get a lockable one for the IVA? Not sure you'll need an unleaded insert with your engine Jason, as this used to depend on the age of the engine, etc. Them were the days......... Bset check the IVA manual. Don't forget to get your connecting hose as the piece supplied by Marlin was usefully far too short. I used the solid wall version but you need to take the rear tub off to fit it. If you don't want to do that get some flexible stuff. Both are expensive extras. ...peter |
I'm using a nasty plastic cap (until it breaks!)

The nyloc is already on the cap. I just found an electrical end terminal that fitted the bolt snugly, bent it up slightly and then soldered on the sink chain. Fitting the other end required loosening the rear tub, pulling off the connecting hose (I used the flexible stuff) and re-attaching, making sure the end of the chain was now trapped between the filler neck and the hose, and the jubilee clip holds it all together.
If you need a few inches of connecting hose, I've probably got some spare somewhere which I can let you have. Tim |
That's very generous of you - yes please! :)
I've PM'd you. |
Mine isn't tethered but as the car keys are attached to it to unlock it I'm unlikely to lose it!!

According to one edition (claims to be 3.2) of the IVA manual it must be tethered unless it is locked using the ignition key. According to another edition (1.0) you must only be able to remove the key in the locked postion.
However 1.0 seems to be dated AFTER 3.2 - beats me how you are supposed to know what you are going to be tested against. Problem is their configuration control is pants. |
