Good luck with the MOT.

micky1mo 25th July 2015 18:37

Passed MOT today :high5:
I know from the short trips around the yard that it would drive nice but was well pleased on the MOT run.
It is by-far the best SAMMIO I have yet to drive, all around light , smooth, nice power input, goes around corners and stops well!!!
I still have issues with the coolant but I have to speak to SIMJIM who I am sure will put me right

All-inall I am very please with it, all the hard work has paid off!!:icon_biggrin:

Anyone know where I can get a SS1 with the Nissan turbo engine!!

micky1mo 27th August 2015 19:19

With the help of SIMJIM the coolant issue have now been sorted so I'll give it another run this weekend
Bear crate grills are now available made from aluminium but there not cheap :doubt:

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...pswwogspfb.jpg

This was custom built as it's 5" wider than standard @ £140 :scared:

Paul L 27th August 2015 19:34

It is good to see the return of the beer crate grille.

Are you going to be painting it for the customer too?

Good luck, Paul. :)

Thanks HM

Thanks HM

Bolt on bits in west Yorkshire keep those led's and they are e marked last time I went they had clear, amber, both with or without a chrome bezel. I have had them on my Jeep for years front and repeaters and no bother with MOT.plus they are fully waterproof. You do need a resistor to fool the flasher unit though. Bolt on bits have an eBay shop if you search rdx land rover in eBay that is there brand then click on sellers other items. I will add a link if I get enough signal I am currently camping in a field near Whitby with very poor mobile coverage. They are not the cheapest but they seem to sell good quality and a good selection of led. Ed

Here you go.

And the chrome trims

Hope you like them.

Many problems and issues have surrounded this car's build which is why the postings on this thread stopped.:icon_sad:

That said the original car was finished on 31/03/2016, then placed in storage on 21/06/2016.

Now, after muck trouble and strife, over a year of abuse in storage and several weeks of restoration work it's road worthy again.

This was done becaue IMHO I think this is still the best "driving" SAMMIO built to date. Not the best SAMMIO ever built, but the best "driving" SAMMIO so it's worth saving. :yell:
The reason for this is simple unlike the traditional TRIUMPH donor this has a strong galvanized chassis (which was original designed to take a fiberglass body-tub) at it's core along with all around independent wishbone suspension, 4 pot servo assisted duel line brakes, reliable 1600cc XR3 engine, 5 speed gearbox ect, ect.
Again it's only IMHO, but as for the SAMMIO styling look for yourself :mmph:

The two chrome blips under the filler cap are extra LED brake lights. My felling is as the real tail/brake lights are very low they wouldn't be seen very well in nose-to-tail traffic were as the higher LED lights would. They also help disguise the plinth for the filler cap.

Note the "recycled" cam belt as a bonnet strap :biggrin1:

We took it for a spin recently and "yes" it's still the best SAMMIO I have driven to date, even though I'm to fat for the seats :biggrin1:
I should also point out it's a Cordite body not a Spyder body

Mister Towed 5th August 2017 06:33

Lovely looking car Micky, good effort. Love the upcycled cam belt bonnet strap, simple and effective idea.

I'd say it could do with some racing roundels to break up the sides, which always look a bit plain without them on the doorless Sammio bodies.

If it were mine I'd also replace the steering wheel and seats with more period looking items, but that's just down to personal taste.

Oh, and well done for getting another Cordite finished, it's a rare beast indeed!

micky1mo 5th August 2017 17:14

MR TOWED Thanks for the comments.
A lot of bits and pieces when missing while it was in storage, the steering wheel and two wire wheels were just some of them!!!

I have a replacement steering wheel in wood just waiting for the boss to arrive.
Still not sure about some roundels and a stripe but I have been trying to get some "off white" roundels similar to the ones fitted to the blue SAMMIO G46.

The cam belt idea works very well particularly as it tents to fold in front of the radiator keeping it clear of the cooling fan. :surprised:

redratbike 5th August 2017 17:50

How about Yellow roundels for a change?

Paul L 6th August 2017 09:18

Micky - Nice to see the car painted and on the road.

Is this the only Cordite on the road with no hump?

Cheers, Paul. :)

micky1mo 6th August 2017 09:44

Redratbike Aren't yellow roundels something to do with Ferrari!! :peep:

Paul L I think your right!!
The original body had no hump, no doors and no fiberglass baulkhead!!
If I remember correctly the body came from the "Ribble" camp!!

Should be ready for the MOT this coming week, then after some "road development" onto E-Bay!! :icon_biggrin:

Barry Sheene rode a Ferrari?

Who knew?

:icon_wink:

Mistrale 9th October 2017 17:21

Did you have to IVA this? The windscreen frame is part of the chassis on the SS1 (and has some roll reinforcement as I recall...) so cutting it off might offend the authorities.....

I just have a thing about yellow roundels ha ha

Mister Towed 10th October 2017 06:21

Hadn't heard about the yellow roundels thing, but yellow was the original Ferrari team racing colour, so yellow roundels probably wouldn't have been used on their yellow cars.
