lovely work, it will be nice to see another colour being used... How does the boot open, are they push buttons?

Paul L 26th August 2015 11:33

CarNoob - Congratulations on getting your car painted, the white looks good.

I like the section you added under the number plate, in fact, the whole back end of your car looks very "clean".

Good luck, Paul. :)

All that prep and your loss of fingertips was worth it.

Did it go without a hitch?

Painting went ok except for the test area I used a sample can on, so test some spray on some areas first. A friend did a complete re spray on his Lamberetta said it looked fantastic because of all the prep. came back 2 hours later the whole bike had a crackle finish:cry: . If anyone else is painting prep then prep again then when ready once more for good measure. Add extra thinners to the final coat. I used a 2 for the high build and1.4 nozzle for the finish next time final coat would be with 1.8 nozzle

Car now has lights. had same problem as you Paul, holes for indicator screws too close to the centre hole. Slipped with drill and chipped paint just above the light, small job but annoying.

Paul L 29th September 2015 17:58

Sorry to hear you also had indicator fixing problems. :icon_sad:

But getting the headlights fitted really does make a big difference.

Good luck, Paul. :)

CarNoob 19th October 2015 17:26

Yes size is about the same. Made a rubber mould today. I am going to cast in a two part resin plastic that is very strong, I may make another in aluminum. But first need to make a small foundry.

Why dont you buy some aluminium powder to go in the resin that way if buffs up and looks very metallic

That's not a bad idea looking at the cost of the ones Maserati sell!

Wiring issues . seat covers, general stuff .
One job I intend doing is forming a 5mm screen and have screen posts with an aluminium frame. this will take some time tinkering, so Feb looks like a good time to mot

swifty 29th October 2015 08:15

Nice detail and the car is looking good.

Looking forward to see your screen fitted.

davecymru 30th October 2015 06:23

That is looking very nice!
I think the AA grill badge is always a nice 'British' touch as well :)

CarNoob 12th February 2016 12:13

made a cover for the number plate leds which cost 3.50 for 4

Jan went skiing. Wife 50th on valentines day so off to London for a few days to watch a show. Then my mums 80th to organise beginning of March. so been too busy/cold to work on the car, but watching classic car show mille miglia last night made me spend an hour on the template for the car windscreen.

phil9 13th February 2016 06:40

great car

CarNoob 15th February 2016 17:49

progress today. made an oven out of an old locker, two heat guns and some insulation
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...ps28do5yqy.jpg
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...psvy68mpm5.jpg
made a flat sheet raised on blocks to circulate the air
you can see template in the background
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...psoayicmfy.jpg
trial piece worked but had imperfections. so I decide to use a piece of cotton sheet to lay the screen on. This worked great and made it easy to pull out the hot screen which I lay over the template and held in place until cool. If I do it again I will make a positive and negative to help keep the shape while cooling.

this is the sheet cut oversize
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...psyxgmfoez.jpg
and formed
http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...psfx0hst79.jpg
couple of picturess with the template on still thinking of the screen size and toying with idea of removable wipers

My understanding is that if you look through the screen while driving, then you must have wipers fitted permanently.

As you look over the traditional Sammio screen, it is considered to be a wind deflector and no wipers are required.

Hope that helps, Paul. :)

PS
The car looks great.

CarNoob 23rd February 2016 15:43

Hi Paul
I think I am going to make a small and larger screen for the best of both. At the moment I'm in the process of making a retaining strip that will be removable. Also having a control panel made, two quotes for the same item one £500 to have design laser cut and £200 for laser etching:der:. the other quote is £90 all in:roll:. I made the mistake of sending a picture of the car too the first company . Mind you car does look a million dollars

swifty 23rd February 2016 17:19

Hi Carnoob What Paul mentions is correct about the screen and wipers but it did cross my mind what if you get a very small MOT examiner who can't see over the screen so i thought it may be wise to carry a booster seat for the small chap and a whoopy cushion for good measure. Just kidding but you know how some MOT testers can be awkward for the hell of it and they can fail a car depending on how they interpret the regulations.

What control panel are you having made.

CarNoob 24th March 2016 10:15

Control Panel

Great for when someone cuts you up, or is driving too close.
