National Kit Car Show

I have a clash so cannot make it. Anyone fancy being the de-facto club president this year?

Responsibilities involve saying "Yes" and then sharing your postal address so I can send the free tickets and stuff.

Benefits include easy free entry and easy free parking plus bragging rights and any extortion rackets you want to run against other club members.

PM Me. Biggest bribe or first come wins.

Drummajor 9th January 2020 15:06

I intend on going this year but not sure which day and I hope my mx250 will be completed too.

Drummajor 11th January 2020 19:18

Anybody else planning on going?

Lucky@LeMans 11th January 2020 23:47

I'll be there one of the two days.

Remember the dates have changed this year, the event is on the 2nd and 3rd of May which is the Saturday and Sunday !

There isn't a bank holiday Monday, the day off for most is moved to Friday the 8th to coincide with VE day !!

DaveP 12th January 2020 02:04

Hi Nick,

I have not dived in to claim this as i am only going on the Saturday and someone else may be better suited if they go both days. I (have to be back home for a close family birthday on the Sunday) will be there with the usual red Kobra though and looking forward to seeing those that can attend.

If you don’t get any PMs here will you try the FB Tribute Group ?

Thanks

Dave

WorldClassAccident 12th January 2020 09:41

Good point Dave, forgot FB. Posting it there now

wozzy 1st March 2020 13:17

Has anyone actually managed to get any tickets yet? as i have been asking but nothing has happened yet

Don’t think you need them , turn up on the day in your kit car and get in for free.

Lucky@LeMans 1st March 2020 16:03

No need for advance tickets unless you want to stay in the on site accommodation. Free entry on the gate for kit car drivers, a few quid if you want to camp and that's it.

DaveP 1st March 2020 21:16

I was considering getting a pre booked ticked for the CEO. It’s free for kit drivers and either £15 on the day or £12 (plus 50p) in advance.

I am definitely going Saturday. Have digs booked Friday night in Kenilworth. Need to buy dinner for said CEO to make it more attractive:)

Dave

wozzy 1st March 2020 21:26

Was there not a Tribute Automotive area?

Lucky@LeMans 1st March 2020 21:38

Should be, just park up there. Not sure what state the show ground is in this year. They had cordoned off some of it last time for the HS2 works that had just started.

wozzy 2nd March 2020 08:14

Cheers guys

smash 2nd March 2020 12:25

Just a thought but Corona virus may kick this into touch...

Lucky@LeMans 2nd March 2020 19:03

Maybe, maybe not ! I think a proportional response, like right now, will do more good than looking down the road a couple of months. I would expect to see all air travel suspended, all larger work places closed down, schools closed etc etc . If all that fails then low key, largely out door events ( kit Car / motoring events etc ) might be hit too. Who knows, this is the UK, not a state controlled country like China. I think it will be hard to stop people doing their thing.

wozzy 3rd March 2020 19:59

i have booked the hotel, so i am going regardless haha

Me too.

I called the organisers today and no indication of any cancels. They also confirmed the plot for Tribute Owners Club is 49B same as last year. Until the official show ground map is released we are not sure exactly where it will be.

I must do a few tings to Max before I take him (my name for the red Kobra)

Dave

Lucky@LeMans 3rd March 2020 22:18

Lol, I only call my car names when I'm trying to sort out problems and it isn't going to plan !

Drummajor 27th February 2021 08:57

Im guessing stoneleigh is not happening this year , not in May anyway .

Nothing on the website yet, just last years post. I don't think restrictions for events are lifted until after the usual show date.

peterux 27th February 2021 20:46

I think they tried to run it in August last year but weren't allowed.
Perhaps they will try the same dates this year?
We should be Okay by then......:hail::hail::hail:

WorldClassAccident 6th March 2021 09:27

I haven't received any of the usual paper work for the club pitch yet

peterux 6th March 2021 10:26

According to Steve Holes weekly blog, part of site is being used as a vaccination centre so that could make things a bit complicated .
But maybe late August bank holiday weekend could be a possibility?

Lucky@LeMans 6th March 2021 20:25

I know Silverstone Auctions and Classic Car Auctions have been using the main exhibition halls to store cars and run their online auctions events. That was the case last year, they appeared to have block booked it for longer term. Not sure what the arrangements are going forward.

Drummajor 26th July 2021 08:38

Looks like it’s on this year now, end of August . Has anybody received any info about our normal pitch or not ?

WorldClassAccident 26th July 2021 22:54

Yes - I got the stuff through. We will have a slot. I meant to sort it and post details at the weekend but started rum cocktails at 3pm Friday and have just woken up.
Updates probably during this week!

Drummajor 8th August 2021 09:29

Who’s going ?
I will be there on the Saturday , WCA do you know where our pitch is yet?

Drummajor 23rd August 2021 08:40

Anybody else going to this ?

Lucky@LeMans 23rd August 2021 09:07

I'll be there, maybe both days !

Mitchelkitman 23rd August 2021 18:12

I'll be there both days (with my Quantum & folding Quantumsleep caravan in tow), but I'll drop by to see the Tributes

Lucky@LeMans 25th August 2021 11:18

Weather forecast looks good for both days which is a bonus !

Drummajor 27th August 2021 19:51

Any body know if we have our usual parking spot ?

Lucky@LeMans 28th August 2021 15:45

Got there early today, met up with a couple of people, had a chat about the Formosa to a few interested parties and that was about it.

Down to just one hall this year and that was spaced out and sparse . The club areas are much reduced and spread out .

The "show" was running down by about 2.30 so it was time to go !

There was a German bloke who parked next to me in a Seven style car. He had come all the way to visit the show, don't know what he thought but he left before me !

A bit of a let down really, I think this type of show has had its day. The older halls that were once used as an area for selling your car are now taken by a company making prefab buildings. Much of the site has been handed over to HS2. Other parts of the site are run down and in a mess !
The organisers would do better by integrating with one of the larger "classic" shows, Stoneleigh as a venue has run its course.

Mister Towed 29th August 2021 09:43

That's a shame.

I thought that might be the case when I looked through the list of exhibitors on the show website, which appeared to be very sparse to me.

It's possibly another example of the internet killing traditional retailing - twenty-five years ago, apart from magazine coverage, the only way a kit manufacturer could get its product in front of interested customers was to display it at a show.

These days, anyone who's interested in building a kit is just a few clicks away from all the information they need to make their decision, apart from physically seeing and touching the finished article, and it's been that way for at least a decade.

It would still be good to have a show where manufacturers and owners can display their cars, but I suspect you're right about needing to piggyback with the classic car and/or hotrod scene.

Jaguartvr 29th August 2021 11:49

The last time I went I was aiming to stock up on some tools and consumables, however, everything up there was exactly the same that is on offer on eBay except that it was all considerably more expensive. Just not worth a 4 hour return trip for me, the only stall I would have been interested in this year was Grassbanks but they don't have a stall this year.

Lucky@LeMans 29th August 2021 17:41

I took the Formosa over to Broadway in the Cotswolds today, I had more interest in the car in the first 30 minutes than I did all day yesterday, says it all really !

Mitchelkitman 30th August 2021 01:24

I have to say I thought the show was good, when you look at the FACTS...
The organisers only had 6 weeks to get it all going.
Hall 1 was a Covid vaccination centre!
Is it really justified to write-off the show in view of the above?

lots of businesses/exhibitors had very little notice to get staff, goods, displays etc in place. Funds may have been tight, and next year may be much better if the traders/exhibitors have the necessary time and funds available. Lots of the clubs had a good turnout, and (for the manufacturers who were there), it appeared to be fruitful from my observation of the queues at stands, and the feedback I heard from their staff.
making a comparison........ have you been to a restaurant recently and found the menu much reduced compared to how it was 2 years ago? i know I have.
Make allowances guys, and be positive - It is our hobby, and it helps if we support it.

Lucky@LeMans 30th August 2021 09:35

I don't know, there appeared to be a low key vibe about the whole day, go back a few years and it was buzzing. I know things have changed but I remember the days when the showground was packed with kit cars filling the entire site. When I was an active member of the Robin Hood owners club we would get over 100 cars on our club stand. Whilst some of the kitcar marques such as Westfield and Marlin were well supported most were not.
I spoke to a couple of traders in the hall, they both said they wouldn't have come if they had known how quiet it was going to be, that was about 11am Saturday.
I don't know how much it costs to put on the show but I would be surprised if it is still viable from the organisers point of view.
I don't like to knock the show, I've been going there since the 1980's so I've seen the ups and downs, sadly this time was a low point for me !

IanA 30th August 2021 12:02

I counted 5 Tribute cars in all and they were attracting interest. The main problem seems to be that the showground management weren't bothering to make the show viable. Presumably the high price of stands for traders and manufacturers is down to the fee charged to Grosvenor. Many manufs resorted to bringing their cars in and setting up on club pitches. The lack of camping facilities didn't help. Apparently Grosvenor were being charged £500 per water standpipe, that's just connecting one and turning on the valve. The showers and toilets around the site (ie not in the halls) are just embarrassing. Stoneleigh is now being touted as a business park and new or refurbished offices are all over it now.
Having said all that, I enjoyed the show and the wide variety of cars represented. You may be able to see pics and get specs from a website but there's no substitute for seeing the metal/plastic and talking to owners who are only too willing to share their build and drive experiences.
I hope it continues. My personal suggestion would be to DROP the outside trader stand prices to encourage their attendance. I'm not actually sure that the Stoneleigh Park management even wants that.
The deal for a show at the Newark Showground next year has already been signed.

Lucky@LeMans 30th August 2021 16:15

The only hall being used is in the video below

This company were just off the centre of the hall.

The industry "showcase" event ? Judge for yourselves !
