Chaps

If you look on the GTOengineering.com web page you will be able to see a newly built 250 sub, I wouldn't like to ask how much it was, but they might sell grilles etc to make the tribute model look more authentic

Plastic Porsche 29th July 2014 21:22

That should be 250 SWB

Geoff's 250SWB build

More out of curiosity than conviction I found out the cost of 275GTB headlight perspex and metal edge strips to be £1051.20.
Seeking alternatives now.

zagmad 31st July 2014 19:15

Alfa spyder headlight cover duetto. Any good . Gtb is that the one with long nose or the one that looks like an swb but with a bigish boot. Gte?

Egdik 31st July 2014 23:57

Here is a 275GTB.

1 Attachment(s)
The bodywork is very similar on the GTB2 and the GTB4.
The Alfa ones are not close enough.

More Progress

Sorry for the delay in posting, progress has been in fits and starts due to large volume of kit orders. With the Donnington Show looming it's full steam ahead.

Front end now filled and sanded

Panels out, trimmed and placed on our engineless workshop Z3. Just a touch too long!

Not a bad fit with a little trimming around the windscreen

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psa494ad5d.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psd48e2b53.jpg

The stripped out base car that the panels are sat on is riding about 2.5" too high, even with an old Rover V8 chucked in the engine bay:

Very sleek.

Hammy 6th August 2014 21:37

Looks great Chris

zagmad 6th August 2014 22:17

Think I'll take my tape measure. Looks good for proportions on the wings ;-). Well worthy the wait Geoff.

Plastic Porsche 6th August 2014 22:38

looking good

Very sleek Chris, how much is it lowered

Scottie22 6th August 2014 22:44

It looks really cool, if it were mine I'd have it down even lower!

y cymro 6th August 2014 23:04

That looks really great chaps. Even better than I'd hoped it would.
I like the 'old' Rover motor too - is that the twin plenum version?

Tribute Automotive 7th August 2014 21:57

Now we know how the front end is going to fit, in relation to the doors and windscreen, we were happy to properly position the rear end and widen the rear arches to cover the tyres

The roof was also split and widened to match the Z3 windscreen

Picked up some nice old Jag bolt on wires from ebay, should look the part

The lowered picture is only Photoshopped. The red Z3 the panels are currently on is not the car they will be finally fitted to. As these panels are the intermediate buck from which the final mould will be taken, for the Z3 kit, they will not be fitted to Geoff's base car. Geoff will be getting the first production kit. The buck panels will be fitted to this 2.8 which will be my daily driver:

Wow- they even have an authentic Dunlop SP Sport tread pattern.

Danny_HUFC 8th August 2014 20:22

They look familiar! I bought mine off ebay off a guy who didn't know what they came off....

Now- it gets interesting- will they be drilled and countersunk 45deg for nuts on studs or 60deg for bolts???

That's a great name on the tyre. Bet they're good!

250 swb base cars

Chris, I am really looking forward to seeing the finished article, will the kit fit on a z4 base as well, I think the top windscreen rail attachment would be a lot cleaner and the z4 coupe windows are the right shape, I like the idea of having a fully built self collared gel kit which is fully bolt on, all be it more expensive. It would make it much easier for most people

Tribute Automotive 11th August 2014 21:26

Not wishing to post me a jiffy bag full of glass shards, Geoff had kindly sent me a paper template of the Z3 coupe side windows that he has purchased. They will fit his car extremely well:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps346f1a5f.jpg

I am still weighing up the various options for side windows and may even have different set ups either side of the car for Donnington.

The rear section of a steel Z3 bonnet was cut off and bolted to the original hinges to test how my planned sill/front end split would work:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psc08c2b09.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6925f9a.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...pscb5ab8e3.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps22dabd11.jpg

The traditional bonnet opening is going to be retained also.

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps81c42aa9.jpg

New door skins will fit over the existing Z3 doors to completely change the side profile of the car:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6fa4f76a.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps39a007a7.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps42d0e122.jpg

As with the rear the front arches didn't cover the tyres completely, so:

My favourite view so far and that boot looks big enough to get the weekly shopping in , Geoff .

Down&Out 12th August 2014 10:45

Oh YES!

I didnt expect it to look this good. Not doubting Chris's skills at all but i suppose due to the super accurate buck this looks utterly spot on.

If this is a kit in future, i want one.

Has anybody measured the "windscreen rail" on the Z3 and Z4? How close are they?

EL PRIMER 13th August 2014 09:40

thats looking pretty impressive .
Well done Big C and GT.
I will make time later this week to come and see her.

AcC8braman 23rd August 2014 20:14

Wow, I really do love this, can't wait to see it at Donington :)

y cymro 23rd August 2014 21:21

To be fair to you with the short time left and to give customers a good idea what to expect, why not primer it, fit non functional opaque side 'windows', bolt on some non-functional headlamps and chrome door handles, and sell, sell sell!!
If you're stuck getting it sprayed, if you can trailer it to Swansea on the way to the show I'll primer it for you.
It's looking great Chris, well done.

Scottie22 23rd August 2014 21:33

Looks really nice, perhaps if I'd seen this before I started on the XKSS, I'd be putting an order in!

Will make a huge difference with the nose lowered a bit as you say,

I am also looking forward to seeing it complete in paint! Well done Chris.
