Z3 ABS problem
 

When I took my car in for paint, one of the rear brakes had seized on resulting in it getting very hot and halfway there the ABS light came on.
A metal lever and hammer freed it off enough to get it there.

I have now rebuilt all of the brakes but the ABS light is still on.
I have used a code reader to clear all the old error codes using the plug under the dash, however, the plug under the bonnet will not connect to the ABS.

I bought another rear sensor and plugged it into the suspect side and the ABS light continues to stay on. I then plugged the sensor into the other side with the same result.
I know you can do a resistance test but the pins are so far down in the plug it is almost impossible to do.
I'm presuming the ABS light will clear itself if the faulty ABS sensor is replaced because after the car had been left for 3 weeks the battery was flat and when recharged the ABS light was off until the car was driven.

Anyone got any ideas or knowledge on the subject?

Ive got a cheap (£30 ebay) C110 reader that reads/clears ABS codes on a Z3 OK. A new (Eurocarparts) rear sensor measures 1068 ohms. You can clear the fault-light by disconnecting the battery. If the ABS fault is still present the light doesnt come back on until two engine starts later. I dont believe that fitting new sensors alone will clear the fault code.

Thanks for that. The pins in the ABS leads are so deep that I can't get my multi meter prongs on them.
I have access to a proper garage code reader, by using the connector under the dash I pulled about 20 years of codes and cleared them. The round socket under the bonnet will not connect and this is the socket that reads the ABS.
Using google it appears that you cannot read the abs codes without altering the wiring on both sockets, the round socket is easy but you need pins to push through the socket under the dash and I haven't found anything suitable.

It looks like there are different versions of the cable available.
Some of the ones on Ebay specifically say pre 2001 BMW.
I must have been lucky.
